Madam, it is you that is very kind. I've been accused of many things in my days, but kindness was never chief among them.

People usually highlight the negative, unfortunately. But that doesn't mean there isn't kindness to you.

No it most certainly does not, but it certainly does make my life easier if not everyone knows that.

Because Ma'am, there are those in this world of ours who view kindness as a weakness, and I prefer them think of me as a threat rather than a target.

Those that think that sabotage their own lives. You should endeavor to prove them wrong instead of hiding your kindness as if they were right. It only gives them fuel for their fires.

You sound like my mother, and so I can't help but respond with what I tell her time and time again: By being the bad example I make it easier for your other children to look good by comparison.

If one of my sons said that I would threaten to tell the world about their stuffed narwhalmice toys and just how old they were when they gave them up.

See now that's one thing my mother would never be able to do, because...my narwhalemice were one of the few things I took with me to boot camp.

Any rumors I sewed my younger son's narwhalmice up and sent them to him in Republic City are, of course, mere hearsay and slander.

I, for one, am unsurprised. You are kind, wise, and devastatingly attractive, and we Southern Boys are well known for being impulsive.

Actually, most men in my Tribe found my purple eyes disconcerting... only when I met a Southern boy did I ever get called attractive. I suppose your half of the Tribe might be less superstitious about such things. I do try to be as kind as possible, though. We live in rough times in many ways.

Being systematically decimated by Azulon and then by Ozai does tend to strip one's mind of the more fantastical notions, yes. We are getting better though. I do understand though, about the eyes I mean. There aren't many with the likes of mine either.

I know it's awful, but I was relieved when both my sons had blue eyes like their father. I always taught them looks didn't matter - I just didn't want them to be as alone as I was as a child.

I must say, though, your eyes are lovely. They're like stormclouds. I can't imagine anyone finding them anything but beautiful.

Oh I can. In my mind they swarm like Tex Avery cartoon characters. Making Arrows and Smiley faces.

Oh it wasn't my eyes that were the disappointment, but the rest of me that went with them. Everyone assumed that my having my father's eyes would also mean I would in turn have also inherited my father's gifts. Yeah,...not so much, no.
