[There's a tentative, hopeful smile as he catches sight of her that might remind Peggy of when Steve was about a foot shorter and in boot camp.] I'm hoping she's not being fickle about having you around.
[ohgoditssteve. but she knew about the possibility of seeing him here. so she's just going to take this in stride and try not to melt at the sight of that smile. key word: try.]
I... No, I don't think that's the problem. It's the people she's neglecting in my favour, I'm concerned about.
[Peggy was right about him not knowing anything about women. He's too flustered to realize the smile might be effecting her. But when she doesn't condemn him for being late, the smile gains more confidence until it becomes a grin.]
Well, I don't know about the people she might be neglecting but I do know that I'm glad to see you again. It's been... [For a few seconds he considers saying something else, then simply blurts out what he's been thinking for months.] I've missed you.
[Steve being late is the very least of her concerns. When he's alive and well, how can she possibly condemn him for anything?]
Ah... you, for one; but I think it's mostly an issue with her lack of confidence. Some of the people she has elsewhere, I know she's being lazy with because her interest is waning... [And now she's rambling because she's still trying not to let any of this get to her, but she's only human after all.] I missed you too, Steve...
Well, if there's a version of me in there, then I don't think he'd get too angry over us having a chance to spend time together. [At least Steve hopes the other version of him wouldn't.]
And if he does, I know a version of you that would be happy to spend time with him to make all of this fair.
[Slowly he steps closer, rubbing the back of his neck, before giving her a hopeful look.]
Does that mean that you... [That she had forgiven him.] That you still wouldn't mind teaching me to dance?
[She finally allows a smile to break out across her face as she too, steps forward. The fact that Steve still apparently can't dance is kind of adorable.]
How long has it been, and you still haven't learnt to dance?
If he does, the Agent Carter I know wouldn't mind saying hello.
[That question causes a hint of grief to darken his eyes before he glances away, smiling weakly when he again meets her gaze.] For me, it's been a couple of months. For the rest of the world... it's almost been seventy years.
There isn't - I haven't met anyone else I wanted to teach me.
