It is important to understand them as a whole, I think.

One would think that, among the rational, the power to disintegrate a city with a simple order would be enough to deter war.

Well, yes. You do have a point there, I suppose.

But personally, I can't say I would be that... curious.. about that side of Muggle technology.

But what about other people? Not everyone's in a war, there's innocent people out there too.

There are indeed other people, but a military is in many ways reflective of the people they protect ... or oppress.
