Voicetesting - canon is Virtue's Last Reward, character is Zero Sr.
It is foolish to continue forward, without change, after a half-century of wasted life. Nor is it easy to begin again when one is already approaching their end.
Yet you, mun, wish to find me a new purpose? You have your eye on several games already?
[Doctor Klim laughs bitterly.]
How amusing...
Even if you somehow believe there is use for me, you will be disappointed to find that most aren't interested in playing with a man my age. Have you forgotten so soon I was young, once? Choose him. Take my word for it, your eventual CR ...as well as your much broader icon pool... will make it more worthwhile.
...You "aren't interested?" You claim I am still the same man?
I see. I am curious to know why you chose the failure. You're certainly an odd one.

no subject
Is it not too heavy to call yourself a failure?
no subject
It's the truth.
[Though Sigma doesn't regret his choice. An innocent woman avoided an early death, despite what it cost.]
I failed. This timeline's fate is sealed. From here on, there is no more I can do.
[It's up to 'him' now, in another time. But for them, this is how things will stay.]
no subject
[He knows better than most how much his father worked for years. And while he isn't quite sure how to feel about the project or his role in it, he understands how much time was put into it.]
no subject
"Move on..." I suppose that depends on you.
[Life did continue, but in what direction? The facility had been their home, but they are no longer chained to it. Here they had everything they could need, but now they also had the freedom to return to Earth with the rest of them should they choose. As for Sigma's choice...]
What will you do now, Kyle?
no subject
[He...wasn't quite expecting that question. In the end he never truly believed his father cared much for him, like any normal father would in the stories he read as a child.]
I...don't know. You only created me for the project. But I wish to find more meaning in life than your plans.
no subject
Still, that answer puts him at ease. To find purpose beyond the AB Project, that's all he wishes for his son.]
I understand. I created you to be my replacement should I have failed. But if what you say is the truth, perhaps you should leave. If it is with you, then I am sure Akane will do the same.
[Though it may seem cold, it's Sigma's way of pushing him forward.]

Meow?
[It is not a cat's meow, not really, because it is spoken as the English word. As in the cat just said 'meow' instead of making a proper feline vocalization.]
YOU HORRIBLE TROLL. INCOMING: CRACK
...Though at this point he can't even remember if that encounter actually happened or was a product of a highly inspired imagination.
It's been 45 years and he lives on the goddamn moon. Other than good ol' Schrodinger, no one has had a reason to bring up cats around him in a very long time. Surely, that curse will have disappeared by no-]
If you're trying to be cute, you aren't furling me! That isn't the sound that cats meowk.
[FUCK]
SCREAMING I FORGOT ABOUT THAT
[Even though we live on the moooooooon!]
[He tilts his head to the side and his tail begins to swish back and forth.]
Cats totally go 'meow'. I just don't feel like doing it right now.
no subject
Well, this wouldn't be the strangest thing that's ever happened to him.]
It's not my pawlt. I've had this tic since I was a kitten. Hmmm, not the way nya said it befur.
[...This is why his AI is a rabbit, or else this nonsense would never end.]
So. What are you mewing here? Did Akane let you in?
no subject
[Skeptical cat is skeptical.]
Nope. Let myself in. Have to say though, this place is pretty crazy.
[Just gonna ignore the first part of that question there. Death cat does what death cat wants!!]
I'm glad I have someone to practice my cat puns on. 8|
It wasn't designed for meowtsiders. I had better get rid of nya before my son thinks we've brought him a pet...
[He tries to scoop up the offending feline. It'll be into the spacepod with you! Hope you don't become the first kitty Laika.]
Any time dear~ <3
Hey! You can't just get rid of me!
[SPACE IS COLD NO WAY HE'S GOING OUTSIDE.]
[He scampers out of Sigma's grasp. N O P E he would like to stay and he will be sure to tell your kid he's no man's pet.
no subject
You aren't staying here! There's no room for furloaders in this facility. Surely there's enough vermin on earth to keep you pawcupied.
Who are you?
[And okay, good luck with that talk, he's a big kid and not one to give up when he wants something.]

Clover!
[It's out of his mouth before he can think better of it. She isn't the Clover he knew from the Nonary Game, not yet, or else her greeting would have been undoubtedly angrier. What a careless mistake to make...]
M-My apologies. I mistook you for someone else. But you are right...
[He was sure the participants thought very poorly of him by the game's end, but to him they remained the people he befriended all those years ago. He remembered everything, knew better than they could understand, even cared for their well being.
Most of them, at least.]no subject
[She sighs, shaking her head. Clover is, unfortunately for her, old hat at more than just Nonary Games.]
I know what happens in the third game, Sigma. Well... some of it, anyway... You don't have to pretend.
[TIMELINES.]
So where's the old bat thinking of sending you anyway?
no subject
[He laughs as he dances out of his reach. Acarien then lays sprawled on the floor, the picture of comfort and self contentment.]
Mortals on earth are so boring. They think they've got life and death figured out, as if it could be reduced to a science.
[His tail swishes playfully.]
Who do you think I am?
[God he is such a troll. Maybe spending time as someone's impromptu pet would do him some good. Except it actually wouldn't change anything about him at all.]
no subject
[...Same old Sigma, too, on occasion.]
Ahem. She has a couple of silly ideas: Somarium and Soul Campaign. A handful of her friends are at both. This is, of course, assuming that voicetesting in the next few months goes well, and the icon situation improves. [It's rather dire.]
Have you found yourself anywhere, these days?
no subject
Oh, I guess... you wouldn't know. Since you've never done this before, right...? You might actually be into that sorta thing.
[Clover.]
no subject
[Don't encourage him, Clover. It's been 45 years since he's had anything other than a serious conversation.]
As well, when there's so many people watching, one might find it hard to enjoy. Though I have never engaged in such a thing, I am willing to try anything once.
[Sigma, no, you're too old for this.]
no subject
Hey, she works as a waitress or something part-time. Have to earn tips somehow.]
That's the spirit! If it makes it easier, you can pretend that there's only one person watching... then you might not get so nervous.
I have absolutely no reason to be here | is the cybernetic eye club open membership?
If they don't want to interact with their elders, weeeeell then--[he laughs]--that's their loss!
[bitter who's bitter]
Doesn't matter, get in | YES
Though intelligence isn't the primary issue. My mundane is more concerned that in life-or-death circumstances, other characters will find an old man to be a liability. However, I've experienced enough deadly situations in my time... and it isn't as though I'm an ordinary human.
[He's sure a cyborg can recognize another cyborg, even if it isn't quite so obvious in Sigma's case.]
It's as you said: their loss.
they're making the same gesture in those icons /sob
PFTT I didn't even notice until now!
Mercifully, she hasn't made up her mind, and doesn't plan to for a couple of months.
[He is fully aware of the irony of Zero competing in a fight to the death. Even if his survival instinct has gotten better after participating in the Nonary Game 24 damn times, that doesn't mean he wants to constantly play for his life.]
no subject
I've never head of these Games--and I have a feeling that's a good thing!
no subject
I sincerely hope your mun is nowhere near as cruel. It would surprise me if there was even a single young muse willing to put in such a position!
And if there is, let's see how far their naivety gets them, for all their prized youth!
no subject
no subject
My mun has no plan! There's no strategy or even effort put into this! LOOK, I don't care what happens to me--Teisel Bonne can endure anything thrown his way!--but my FAMILY! My little sister and baby brother are out there somewhere, and my mun won't even SEARCH FOR THEM!!
no subject
You are missing your sister and brother?
[Despite the overreaction, Teisel's sentiment is... touching, actually. He can understand his grief.]
I was lucky enough to be briefly reunited with my son, but I can sympathize. I don't know what is with my mundane and castmates! Mine in particular seems afraid to look, and has resigned us to waiting around until the others happen upon us!
These people are terrible. I hope your mun begins to put in a proactive effort! There are plenty of ways to look for your family.
no subject
Are you listening?! MUNDAAAAAAAANE!!! YOU HEAR THAT?!
[And suddenly, Teisel slumps and hangs his head, entering the other spectrum of his moodswing.]
Bon's always okay, but Tron... No, get it together, man! She'll be okay. She's growing into a tough young woman.
You saw your son, then? Here? And he was alright?
no subject
[Those were his words, right? That must be one tough baby.]
Hm. He was as well as can be expected. He doesn't think as highly of me as I would like.
no subject
Hmm. Well, that's unfortunate. But at least he has you.
