Mun.
I appreciate the opportunity. Really, I do. But these memes are not what I had in mind.
[Stop embarrassing him.]
Oh, and one more thing? The Captain needs to be treated with more respect.

Depends on how sober he is from what I've heard. If he's hitting the bottle hard, really I think even Claire would want to deck him. And pretty sure he taught her how to throw a punch.

[Except for that one trip to Arby's...
Piers sighs and rubs a glove-covered hand over his brow.]
It's more of what my mun is having me do that's got me concerned.
no subject
Ouch, not going too well eh?
no subject
Not very well. To be fair, it's not going horribly either.

You sure about that?

Ah, my mistake then. I do apologize. It is rare that I come to hear of a Captain such as yours, even if merely in passing.
A pity then, that your Mundane should fail to act accordingly. It seems that most don't, unfortunately.

[To both points, actually. Apparently, the respect and admiration he has for his Captain is seen as rare by many -- something that strikes the military-bred Piers as bizarre.]
no subject
Still, it does provide perhaps a glimmer of hope for what one can expect from such an organisation. I take it you are of a military force?

An affirmative nod precedes a reflexive straightening of his back.]
Former Army Special Forces. I'm currently with the North American branch of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance.
[It's a mouthful, he knows, so he pauses for a beat, then adds--]
B.S.A.A. for short.
no subject
Bioterrorism? I'm not sure I understand.
I didn't even think about that. Hurr.
Bioterrorism is warfare where the deliberate release of viruses, bacteria, toxins or other harmful agents are used to cause illness or death in people, animals, or plants. That's the standard definition, but it gets more complicated than that. Really complicated.
[He shakes his head. Better to not open that can of worms just yet.]
For example, rather than shoot someone, blow up a building, or sabotage a supply line, a bioterrorist will infect his or her enemies with a disease like...
[Piers looks the man over, taking note of his attire and demeanor.]
Like small pox.
Haha, it's okay. I wasn't sure if I should have delved into it at all since... well, spoilers etc.
And how do the assailants intend to control such diseases? Illness attacks without warning, nor regard for your standing. The number of civilian casualties must be remarkable.
No worries here.
[He flinches a little, remembering being briefed on the catastrophic details of the T- and G-viruses, Las Plagas. No cures or antibodies there. Then there's also the B.O.W.s...]
The assailants are usually your run-of-the-mill nihilistic types or those with god complexes. They simply don't care if they've released something out of control that can kill people in droves. In some cases, they even infect themselves.
[Piers shrugs. Yeah, he doesn't get it either.]

I've found that meme-hopping tends to be less of a commitment than a full-time game, at least. More quick laughs and less life-altering events.
[Read: bright side. There is one, believe it or not.]
no subject
Subconsciously clearing his throat and pushing his shoulders back, he nods just once in agreement.]
I can see the appeal of memes. I don't mind them -- most of them, anyway. It's just the ones my Mun tends to throw me in...
[Humiliating, to say the least.]
no subject
I assume deal-making is out of the question, if you're here. Any chance of nudging your player towards the ones you don't mind when you can help it? Unless they're particularly good at multitasking.
no subject
I try and sometimes I'm successful. Other times, not so much. My Mun tends to suffer from the 'Ooh shiny' effect, so there you have it.
no subject
I'm guessing your captain's caught up in the same vicious cycle?
no subject
More or less.
no subject
You're worried about him?
no subject
[Although "worried" is just putting it lightly, Jill. Piers is downright fearful of what might happen to Chris if he continues on such a downward spiral.]
He insists he's fine and -- well, I'm sure you know what else he tends to do and say.
no subject
It's... not easy to watch, I understand. Chris has always been pretty good about bouncing back on his own time; it's probably not easy giving up a habit that's gotten him through as much as it has. [Especially considering how stubborn he is.
Then, with a little more open concern,] Has he been in any real danger lately?
no subject
[And he's thankful for that. Quite thankful, as evidenced by his deep sigh of relief.]
He's been safe. I've made sure of that.
no subject
Thanks. It's nice to know he's got good men watching his back when I can't.
no subject
Anything I should know about there, Piers?
no subject
Meanwhile.
Don't tell don't tell don't tell---]
My Mun is laughing at your expense, sir. And I'm simply torn over some of the memes I've been put in.
no subject
I'd take this as one of those cases where it's better off if I don't know, but I don't think I can do that, honestly. [Brow raise at the mention of these memes.] Any trouble there?
