I wasn't there for that event. I only know of it because I've been trying to build up an archive of events and see if there's a way to tap into the local sources of mana without anyone noticing - rather like run off.

Politics, mostly, and using the chaos of Kayneth's death to my advantage to get what I needed in order to move forward. [not that he's quite done with what he intends to do with a title, authority, Holy Grail destruction and teaching position yet.]

And it's really not that personal. The tenth head of the family holds the Archibald crest, I maintain the lordship. It's an alliance of sorts. Pipsqueak third generation mage gets power and they get two means of improving their family name. [Not that any of this means he and the Archibalds eye-to-eye on all matters.]

[ooc: The Nasuverse is very heavy on stasis for mages, which annoys me considering that the Grail Wars highlight the exact problems with the way things are. Yeesh. There's old, and then there's that. [for all that he's fine with making fun of nobility, there's something to be said for a line going back that far. There's few others that can make such claims as far as he knows, and that's worthy of some respect.] It's a little awe-inspiring, actually. Thank you for the compliment. I must admit, though my blood is old, there are many things that my family does that seems to be out of sync with the policies of most modern magi. Therefore, I am more often or not working with other magi from recent bloodlines. Yet, I can still see the logic in the Association's policies. Younger bloodlines have a smaller inventory of spells, do they not?

That explains it then, and I can respect making your own calls on who to pledge loyalty to.

May I ask what the other differences are? I'm genuinely curious to see what was once common practice and how it's evolved. [and here we go, back to the stupid bloodline thing that he's dealt with all his life. Forgive any curtness that follows.] I have a smaller inventory to call upon and more to teach myself, but I have the advantage of being forced to understand all technical aspects before making said spell work. By understanding the technical elements, I have greater paths open to me with invention and I can make more specific modifications as suited to the situation at hand.

Circuit theory is full of gaping holes anyway. It was only invented in the early 1900s with the advent of the circuit board and older convention had some emphasis on being capable of improving one's skill through work as much as marrying the right family. It's only been seized upon by a technophobic Association because it's useful for keeping people in their place.

Well, my family uses older, and some would say heterodox forms of magecraft like runic magic. My mother makes potions and sometimes dabbles in blessings or curses, so you could say she is capable of witchcraft. Perhaps our greatest specialty is that we are carriers of a special sorcery trait called Godsholder. However, since it is an ability unique to our clan, I do not know if it is of any use to you. Even if it can be replicated, it can only be used for combat. That is all I have to say on our magecraft practices. Would you need our social practices as well?

[His explanation does make sense, though she still has her doubts.]

I hear that too much contact with human technology can weaken a magus' abilities. Even my family has attempted to avoid human technology except where it is absolutely necessary, such as better fishing boats.
