Voice Testing a minor character!
Mun? I really do not think this is a good idea...
Of course I want to help people, it was what I was written for! But....everything went so wrong and I do not want to remember that. You can promise me a new start and new friends all you want, but I wish for my old friends and the clinic we started and our old run time more than playing in any game. I miss my friends so much.....
I hope that if Paige managed to get out and is functioning somewhere, that she can forgive me. I did not mean for things to happen the way that it did. I only wanted to help. I'm so so sorry!

"I'm...I'm sorry. What happened to your friends?"
no subject
I have not seen you before. Who are you? [her tones are not terse or rude. Just quiet with a touch of caution]
no subject
"I didn't mean to scare or upset you. I think my mun sent me to this place to learn."
[He pauses, and puts his hand out in greeting, and to show he's not armed.]
"My name is Jet. I'm from the Encom lab server." [Technically not a lie. He did come from there to here.] "My function was to fight off a viral attack."
no subject
My designation is Rox. Being a medic is my function.
[she slowly reaches out to take the hand, curling her slender fingers around it in a sure grip]
You...are from Encom?
[She asked in quiet amazement. Most programs knew about that system]
no subject
"Rox. Nice to meet you. Yeah, I'm from that system. I'm an agent of Ma3a. She's the Administrator for the lab server."
"And you're a healer? I...I don't suppose you can teach anything about that? I have some ability to heal others from viral infection, but I'm not very good at it."
[As in "it almost killed him when he pulled an infection out his infected partner." Besides, if he can learn even basic Program first aid, it could mean fewer lives lost on his watch.]
no subject
I can show you some things if you like.
[her expression relaxed into a small smile, bemused at his request but relieved. Her function she could definitely talk about]
You know about patching right? That is usually what is first tried when it comes to surface render damage after a scan and diagnostic.
no subject
"I'm familiar with the concept, yes." [Gotta love years worth of slumming it in QA before getting an actual programming gig.] "So after a scan and diagnostic, there would be an uninstall of the bad code, and application of the patch. Do you need to build the patches yourselves?"
no subject
Yes. Sometimes we have to get creative if the damage is really extensive. Many programs can apply their own basic pre-made patches to protect surface damage or to hold it together until they can get to a medic for repair.
For deeper code work, we have to forgo tools and go in using the Disc Interface. Medics are written with certain code permissions so we can have access to various things that most programs can't reach.
[pausing, she tilts her head]
You don't seem like a regular viral quarantine security program. Is this particular function specific to the Encom system?
[her tones were curious, more relaxed now that she was doing shop talk]
no subject
"I'm not a typical security Program. Ma3a's agents work on things security software can't handle. My partner was spyware that fought other spyware, posing as a lightcycle combatant most of the time. I was uploaded to fight off a virus that had decimated most of the security software. Ma3a made it so I wouldn't be infected, which meant I was the only one who could do the job."
"I always viewed my job as trying to save who I can during a viral outbreak or malware invasion. Fighting off the attack is only part of the solution. If there are casualties, no one should have to de-rez needlessly or in pain."
no subject
You have an immunity? [she asked, impressed] Now that would be interesting to see!
[Another small smile touched her features] Perhaps there's a little bit of medic code in you then after all. It certainly sounds like it.
Is there anything in particular you wish to know? I do not mind data sharing anything you are curious about.
no subject
"The immunity is a long story, but the virus is gone now. That particular strain can't happen again."
"I've noticed that shattered arms or legs are common injuries. Maybe too common. Disc hits and falls can cause a lot of damage."
no subject
Well! You're diving right in!
[she teased gently with a small grin, amused.]
A definite challenge, and seemingly complicated but it is a straight forward solution. Though it can easily become complicated.
[She added, knowing from experience.]
I am not sure what format Encom programs use, but I know for Grid-based Basics it requires going into the program's base code. If their opposite limb is undamaged, than it is just a matter of replicating the code piece by piece in reverse to repair the other limb. It can be tedious, but it is effective.
[She pondered a moment.]
If both similar limbs are damaged or lost, the best thing one can do is to patch the injury to prevent more data loss and take the program to the nearest medic center. Most places have an extensive database where code bases from previous cases can be searched, so a similar one can be found to repair the damage.
While this is happening, we go in and do some tweaks to make sure the program remains stable. Usually energy packs are administered to keep them energized.
no subject
[OK, that's fascinating. Programs can heal those?! Wow...imagine if a User that lost a leg got digitized. Maybe...
Cool your heels, Jet. As promising as this is, you already saw what User greed can do to the Programs' world.]
"I didn't know that was even possible. I mean, I've used energy patches. Saved my life more than once with them. I just never saw anyone recoding limbs. You probably would have to tweak it so that the poor guy doesn't literally end up with two left feet."
no subject
[Rox grinned a little at his reaction]
It is a pretty difficult problem to repair yes. The trick to that is the long tedious work of replacing the damaged code with the normal code from the other leg, while mirroring it to prevent the two left feet. It can take a while depending on the extent of the damage.
[Well this was definitely not a conversation topic she was expecting when he first asked her if she was a healer! This program was pretty interesting for a variation of a security program!]
