So I'd assume.

[ So he knew him before. He'd assumed he hadn't just sprung out of the cryo-tank, fully formed, from day one...but his prior life isn't something he gives much thought to.

That's not about to change now. Who he was before doesn't matter...and neither does this man, for that matter.

There's something about him, though. He can't put his finger on it quite yet. ]

*Bucky just watches him for a while. The crease between the brows that should be relaxed and proud. The tension in his shoulders. The quiet. Steve just... shouldn't be quiet.

Then he sighs.*

I'd say you're the one who ought to have questions. You've already told me what I need to know.

No. She read the story - I think my questions got answered.

*and, yep, those large eyes are sad. He never wanted anything bad to happen to Steve. Let alone this. Never this. A good man shouldn't come to this.*

[ The thing is, bad things did happen to Steve, all the time. He was sick, he got hurt, he was rejected. He always bounced back. But there's no coming back from this, no hope of recovery or redemption.

Steve's own stubbornness did him in. Instead of bending to the brainwashing as Bucky would have, he had to be broken. He can't feel sympathy for the man in front of him, looking like a piece of his world was just ripped away. It's not his friend, so what should it matter to him? ]
