...you do realize that I still hate you no matter what canon point you take me from, right? I really think I've made that part really clear since... well, ever.
No. Angel doesn't like to talk about it. [ And she doesn't ask because it's none of her business. All she knows is that whatever happened was bad and that it still eats him up that he couldn't save her. ]
It depends on a lot of things, obviously. But Angel's... he's not really a 'closed book' type of guy, you know? You just have to know how to open him up. Even if sometimes you'll need a crowbar to do it.
[ But the long version is insanely long and mostly confusing. So, here's the short version. ]
Angel got possessed. The thing that jacked his body killed Giles. And now he's stuck in obsessive mode trying to bring the guy back. But there's no more magic in the world so it's kinda impossible. Anyway, Angel's collecting fragments of Giles' soul and one of the pieces was in this special scythe that belongs to B, but it's currently in Willow's possession and so she cut a deal with him. He goes to Quor'toth with her and gets Connor to tag along and she'll give him the piece of Giles that trapped inside the scythe. [ There's a pause and she folds her arms across her chest. ] And he got wicked pissed when I told him that it was a bad idea and that he was being selfish draggin' his kid back to that craphole he grew up in.
Well duh! It's a special kind of hell, after all - why do you think Holtz chose it?
[ deep breath. not that she needs it anymore, but whatever. ] Why. Why did Angel even think bringing Connor back there is within the spectrum of a good idea? That is so far from a good idea that it's already on the bad side of good ideas!
'Cause Willow needed Connor to get her there. And once she was there she could make the jump to another place since she's trying to restore magic to the world.
So, let me get this straight - Angel ultimately agreed to all this magic-mojo-mystery-solving-gig which includes going back to the hellhole where Connor suffered inexplicable horrors when he was growing up... all because he wants to get back to the thing that possessed him and killed Giles?
Kind of? [ See? It is ridiculous, confusing and complicated and Faith's not quite sure if she's explaining it right. ] B killed the thing that jacked his body. Angel went to Quor'toth 'cause he wanted the fragment of Giles' soul and Willow wouldn't let him have it unless he helped her out. [ Shrug. ] It's crazy, I get that. Anyway, we're all back now and Connor's fine. More than fine, actually.
Oh. Uh, well when we all came back safely through the portal, Angel and Connor had a farther son bonding moment and he was fine. He's a tough kid. And he's freakishly well adjusted. He's at school and he's got a girlfriend and we left L.A on a good note. He's fine. Trust me.

Or maybe mind reading is part of the half-demon package.

...I take it you haven't heard the entire story about that whole 'half-demon' thing, have you?

It's fun to call him out on stuff. What's not fun is watching him mope about it.
