Even if its removal is far and away from a permanent arrangement, you will be disappointed in knowing that I have no intention of either mourning or celebrating the loss of my bloodbending.

There is nothing I look forward to more than learning how to be a little...creative.

Yes, yes, we all know how militaristic the Air Nomads were. Me cling to my father's coattails? Are you certain you're not just projecting there?

I will never deny that I grew up privileged. Never. But that privilege didn't come without struggle.

No one wanted me in the military. No one. Not the military, not my father. I had to work twice as hard to get to where I am, and three times as hard to keep them from promoting me further. Why?

Because I believe enlightenment can be found via superior firepower. Because I believe that balance must be maintained, and that blood is the currency that pays for it.

You say I don't know what fear and hatred are, but you didn't grow up the son of the Avatar. And you certainly didn't grow up the non-bending son of two of the most powerful benders in the world.

Spirits, what gets me is that your politics are in the right, but your methods...

But hey, perhaps reason is more than we can expect from someone who wouldn't protect his own baby brother.

You carried the burden of a privileged choice. Something your father robbed from everyone he betrayed in what was lauded as one of his greatest accomplishments after the Hundred Year War. You understand blood, and you know what he paid for in the blood of others when he couldn't be bothered to hunt down the one man responsible for all of this and call it an act of mercy.

If you're expecting someone to say that Avatar Aang is blameless in all things, you're talking to the wrong brother.

I was twenty-three when he died, and make no mistake I mourned his death. He just missed where it counted.

My father thought the best of people, even when they clearly did not deserve it. I don't make that mistake. Especially since I'm all too well aware of what non-benders are capable of.

The first non-bender I knew was the monster people thousands of miles away would still look over their shoulders for.
