Better yet, we saw to it that his true ambition to protect the Earth from the Black Aliens was achieved, even fifty years after his death. How about that for a great triumph?
[Being made to doubt his grandfather's integrity and sanity was difficult, but it was a comfort knowing that Gerald's original goal was never to destroy the human race.]

That's probably for the best. Think of this way... he wants to make sure he's got you down perfectly! It's like a compliment! The ultimate lifeform should have the ultimate player, huh?
[Though Shadow doesn't dwell on the past as much as he used to---hell, he'd barely even talked about it with Rainbow Dash or Benson, or anyone in that strange little town, really---he'll always remember his promise to Maria.
