What hasn't he done to prove it? He went to the surface for you, didn't he? There was no guarantee he would find you there, only hope. He found the Triforce and wished for Demise's end so you could finally wake up. For you and no one else and he had no guarantee you would still be there to wake up, only hope. He fought Demise in the past when you were taken. Not to stop Demise, but to save you. Everything he did was for you.

What other proof do you need?

A hero does that for the good of everyone. A lover does that for the good of one person. He did that for you. He helped others along the way and added to the people he wished to help, becoming a hero by his deeds. But his only reason to do it at all, the only thing that kept him going, was you.
