I never met him, but Mother says that he was a lot like my father. Only...less fidgety and clumsy.

Look at this from my father's perspective. A boy he does not know, and who is from the other side of the Pridelands...has an interest in his only daughter. Even if you hadn't been chosen by Scar, he still would have given you a rough time.

[Kovu looks like he's about to argue, then closes his mouth. He knows better than to say things like that now.]

But...what about Mufasa? What am I supposed to say? "Hi I was supposed to kill your son but fell in love with your granddaughter?" Who would believe something like that?

Maybe you can tell him that ... [ she's about to say 'Zira', but decides against it ] ... it wasn't really your idea. Mufasa is revered by Rafiki and my father as a wise and understanding lion. He'll understand what you've done, because he'll see that you're being honest.

Scar did a lot of horrible things. I was supposed to be his heir.
