[She gives a slightly rueful smile, some of her exasperation seeming to leave her.] Hardly. Are we expecting me to possess valor now?

Perhaps not valor, but I thought you better at such games. [ a pause and he feigns a fair amount of shock, though his smile doesn't dim. ] Or is it that you've grown tired of the appeal of arguments?

Good heavens, are you afraid you've made an honest woman of me? Never fear, I'm only biding my time until she's less confident.

I would have been beside myself if I had. Just imagining it frightens me.

[andromedaic]

Well, perhaps I'll try it the next time I'm cross at you.

Is that so? I do wonder how long it might take until you get bored with it.

[andromedaic]

Which begs the question, which of us would get bored first? You, after all, are determined not to be the idle rich- [putting air quotes around that would be absolutely crass and so she's not doing it but they're in her voice] -and so you're clearly more prone to growing restless.

[privy]

Without putting it into practice, I can hardly make an adequate assumption. [ strange how his smile only grows with her tone, though. ] Perhaps a mutual peak of boredom, though knowing the rules of the game often makes it that much more appealing to continue to play.

[andromedaic]

You don't think I'd leave a trick or two up my sleeve to surprise you when the time comes?

[privy]

I'd be disappointed if you didn't.

[andromedaic]

Well. Heaven forbid that.

[privy]

It truly would be a shame. [ he bites back an amused chuckle and then arches a brow. ] But it does seem your annoyance with the situation has lessened despite it.

[andromedaic]

What nonsense. I'm simply practising being sweet for when I have to wheel it out to terrorise you.

[She won't admit to being cheered up that easily, it would be like losing.]

Careful now, I might mistake your efforts for missing me instead. [ speaking of terrorising. ]

[andromedaic]

[She laughs, eyebrows up, though her tone finally lowers towards seriousness.]

The question of missing you quite aside- [those words are safely non-committal, thank you very much, although her tone suggests that it's a question with an answer so obvious she really doesn't think there's any point in spelling it out, now hush and don't be smug etcetera] -I haven't missed her in the slightest, and your arriving to relieve the tension somewhat doesn't mean she and I will get on any better in the long run.
