In school I keep hearing about you and how very intelligent and beautiful you are, well done on that, by the way, and what a feat you accomplished by thinking up the changing layout of the school.

I'll admit that's pretty impressive, but what I really want to know is why in Merlin's name you ever thought installing moving staircases in a school for little children and clumsy teenagers was a good idea.

You know, for the life of me I cannot recall how that decisionmaking process went.

I see a few possibilities.

Either it was thought up as a form of defence strategy in case the castle was penetrated by hostile forces, or it is merely the fact that Hogwarts has a sort of life of its own. The castle re-shapes itself to move with the times so to speak. Hence the appearance of indoor plumbing.
