Oh. Is it? I wouldn't know, really. I just know that Upstairs, you're alive, and Downstairs, you're not.

So maybe I am undead then, especially if I'm up here now.

No, I don't think so. They don't seem very happy at all to be...well, Upstairs. Most I know would love to walk around up here.

[That freaks her out a little to say the least. Eternally damned to be miserably trapped inside your own dead, rotting body while forced to walk among the living doesn't sound to her like something most ghosts would prefer.]

Downstairs isn't so bad, there's plenty of lovely people down there. They're certainly far from peaceful, though. There's a few loud ones, maybe. Some who can't keep their bones together. They've all been awfully kind to me at least.

I'm not sure I've met anyone who's been...Up-upstairs.

Well, I don't know about cursed...but, not everyone gets to say goodbye, and I'm sure they'd like to.

[She remembers, when Emily mentions not saying goodbye, all the ghosts she talked to when she was alive. And how so many of them just wanted to say one last thing to somebody in their family, or someone they loved, or cared deeply about.
The problem was she was the only one who could hear them.]

[ Emily's a little shocked for a moment. What a horrible thing to say to a child! She wants to put a hand on her shoulder, but the boney bits might frighten her. Instead, she decides to smile. And to hang a child? How horrible! She wouldn't put it past some of the crazies in her town but goodness! ]

...Well, we certainly haven't.

And besides, how would they know if they've never been? It's not bad at all. In fact, I'm sure Miss Plum, and even Paul would absolutely adore you.

Rather they...helped me understand what happened to me.

I didn't see it coming, honestly. I was a bit shocked, and Plum was nice enough to help me. Along with a few other people.

Well, Miss Plum is, but Paul...Paul's actually...

Did she just hear a voice besides Emily's, though? She's almost sure she did.]
