I've heard of no such thing. Although, Mirkwood rarely receives word of events outside our borders.

[ He pauses briefly. ]

I suspect that all news of our efforts have been made secret by the Elvenking but his only son now travels with us to ensure the Ring's destruction.

[elfling_prince]

The Elvenking has but one son. And I am not nearly old enough to leave the woods unless with an escort of guards to defend me or my father himself.

[ The look in Aragorn's gaze changes from slight mirth to pure shock now. ]

[ Allowing his shock to wash over him, the ranger merely stares at the young elfling with such wide eyes. ]

[ Finally regaining his voice, Aragorn speaks. ]

Impossible. The Prince of Mirkwood is clearly over a thousand or so years old.

He's hardly a mere child.

...Yet-

[ Staring at the young prince for the umpteenth time, a small smile suddenly comes to Aragorn's lips. ]

I once wondered what you would've looked as a youngster, mellonamin. Rather small, aren't you?

[elfling_prince]

I'm not even near of a century old, let along a thousand.

[Oh my--

He DID NOT just call him small!]

I am not small!! I'm the tallest of the elflings!

[Not quite but Aragorn has no way of proving that Legolas is lying.]

You are small, "tiny" even for your age.

[ He's really pushing it now. ]

[Someone happens to be very sensitive about his size. And despite how tall Aragorn is in comparison to the prince, the elfling launches himself at the man.]

[ Uh oh! Aragorn should've known better than to take the tiny elfling lightly. Elves have pride after all, no matter how young they are.

Trying his best to stifle his laughter, Aragorn catches the little lord's fists in his own. ]

Be at ease, be at ease! I mean no harm.

[elfling_prince]

[Especially when this elf is the son of the Elvenking and wants to be just like his father. His pride is surprisingly fragile for it.

So Aragorn with just get a pout from Legolas now.]

So much pride you possess, young prince.

[ Catching a mere glimpse at that sad little pout, Aragorn let's out a distressing sigh as he released Legolas. Now patting the youth on his shoulder, the ranger feels the need to silently apologize. ]

'Tis of little wonder why you become one of my most valued friends.

[elfling_prince]

[Poooouuuuutttt... But he calms down after a second. He can understand the apology]

We become friends?

[Translation: You tease your friends?]

[ He hears that unspoken question and quickly answers it. ]

That we do but do not misunderstand me. My companions mean much more to me than you realize.

[ He nods. ]

Family is good to have, especially in friends.

[ A small smile returned to the ranger's lips as he regarded Legolas. ]

We are both in agreement and thus would it be too much of me to think of you as the same as your older self?

[elfling_prince]

[He looks adorably thoughtful for a moment but nods.]

I don't believe it would too much but would it not be strange?
