I am no Iron born girl, scribe. I haven't a need for your 'ships'. I do not need your nor Robert's delusions of me. I do not need any man's wishes. I am a Northerner, a Stark. I am no play thing, to be written as you see fit.

Robert is no king of mine.

If things are as you tell me though, there is little surprise in knowing his ruin befalls Westeros. I do not speak ill of him, simply that he does not know me. I should keep it that way.

I am content to stay here, to ride in the North.

A "Stark" you most certainly are to be so bold.

[ He arches his brow for a brief moment before chuckling at her reaction. ]

Considering you're as "wolf-blooded" as Brandon was, I don't dare question it.

That--[ A brief pause. ] That was merely a mistake.

[ He says nothing but merely gives her a "look" that clearly spoke of his hesitance to speak. What happened to her and their brother still hurts like an open wound to Ned and him both. ]

[ This ironic moment makes him chuckle bitterly. Here he is reunited with his long lost sister again and she not only doesn't recognize him, but thinks he holds his tongue out of malice?

Oh, the rich irony. A heavy sigh escapes him. ]

Brandon Stark is dead.

[ He's going to hate himself for declaring this, but he cannot defy her. Benjen could never defy his sister. ]

I...couldn't resist...

[Dark hair, grey eyes and a bold attitude: Jon instantly thinks of his youngest, dearest sister Arya. How could she had grown this much when he still was barely a man grown? But then the lady speaks of a King long dead as if the man is still alive and the boy can only be confused.]

You speak of King Robert as if he was still alive, my lady. How is that possible when he was laid to ground well before Winter came over the Seven Kingdoms?
nightwatcher: (❦ death is often cold and lonesome)

[ Letting silence settle between them for a few minutes, Benjen finally speaks. ]

I find no humor in speaking of my brother's death.

[Jon looks back at the woman as she had suddenly grown a second head. All she speaks of never came to pass and for some reasons, it fills Jon with dread to tell her of it. There's a strange sense of familiarity to her, more than just the fact that she looks like an older version of Arya. Her face, he's seen it before, he can swear it, but he can not tell where he has.]

The Mad King...King Aerys was slain by one of his own Kingsguard the year of my birth. King Robert won the throne over the Targaryen family. Were you never told of this my lady?

[If she's truly a Stark, how can she not know of this. Better else, how does he not know of her?]

Cersei Lannister was the one that wed Robert Baratheon when he became King. [Though if the stories told were true, there was little love between the two of them. Just as Jon has little love for the Queen Regent.

The boy shakes his head]
I am no Lord, my lady. Your younger brother? How many of you are there? [Gods, who's daughter is this? His father would not have hidden any of this trueborns: he loved his children, all of them, very much, he would have kept them close. His uncle Benjen took his vows in front of the same heart tree that he did and Jon believes the man to have honored them better than himself. And his last relative never had trueborns that were known of. This claim to his father's name seems far stretched now.]

[ A slight hint of dread swelled in his heart as she peered up at him. Benjen knew he couldn't hide the truth for her. ]

Aye, I know. The last time I seen you, I was still a young lad recklessly trying to prove his worth with that of a blade he could barely wield.

[ He chuckles. ]

It's quite vexing how quickly the years have passed, sister. I'm as old as Brandon was during then.

Betrothal? [Wasn't Robert promised to....Oh Gods. It finally clicks for Jon. Why the woman doesn't know about Robert's rebellion and why her face is so familiar. He's seen it hundreds of time when he played with Robb in Winterfell's crypts...]

You are Lyanna Stark...[It's not a question, it's a stated fact. Of course, it makes sense now. But Jon knows little about his aunt, his father carried her death like a weight on his shoulders until his own end. The eldest she speaks of has to be Brandon Stark, the man Lady Stark had been promised to before his father fulfilled the betrothal himself.

The boy's gaze drops to the ground as he shakes his head.]
I am not a Stark. [Despite the hair and eyes color, despite that he has a direwolf of his own, he's never been a trueborn and never will be one. The words now hurt perhaps even more than when he'd told them to Brandon the day they found the pups, for now he knows only two Starks remain, one married to the same family that tore them all apart, the other lost perhaps forever.

Jon is hesitant to tell his aunt the truth. About her brother's dishonor, about his untimely death or how his uncle is still lost beyond the Wall. How can he destroy in one sentence all that she holds dear?]

[It is a face he had not thought to see, a voice he had missed hearing. The smile is watery around the edges of his eyes.]

Lyanna, as fiery as always my dear sister. Marriage is not a bane, it can turn out to be a wonderous experience.

Do not fear for your reputation, Lady Lyanna. What little my father told us of you, it was always of the good deeds you did. [And of how Arya's stubbornness and fieriness came from her side of the family.

Jon shakes his head slowly. No matter how much he wants to believe her, no matter how much he tries to be a Stark in all but name, he can not let her think of other than the truth.]
No, I am not. My name is Jon Snow and Eddard Stark was my father, but Lady Stark was not my mother. [Gods, he hopes she will not lover her brother less for his dishonor.]
