If I cared to know an archeologist's opinion on the matter I would've asked. And just because I have plenty of future adventures as well as past ones doesn't negate the fact that I am old. Right now, I am old. Too old, already, even before all the... you... stuff.

You say archaeologist in such a derivative tone of voice. Honestly, what have you got against them?

I did not! Or, even if I did, there's really no way to contradict what I say because I'm the only one who even has a semblance of knowing how old I am, therefore it doesn't really matter if I just made it up or not because it is, in fact, the only number we're ever going to get for my age and I happen to like it.

Not all of us have fancy time travel machines you know. Archaeologists do the best with what evidence they're given.

Yeah, and it's second rate evidence at best. All you get is echoes, remnants of what truly happened, what truly went on with those people and those times. Sure, you do the best with what you've got, but it just so happens that what you've got isn't very good at all.

What planet's years are you even using? Gallifrey, Earth, some other place no one will ever be able to guess?

Oookay, that's a bit weird. That's a bit... new. Not bad, but... new.

I've learned a few things since we last met, I think. If you can cope with my faults--and yes, I know how big an 'if' that is--then I can cope with yours.

Yes! Yes, of course. I mean, I always... I always wanted this for you. And me. And you could maybe come with me and I could keep an eye on that killing thing you do so you won't do it anymore. I'm all right with that, yeah, more than all right with that.

That's the problem, though--I can't just stop. I can be your weapon, I can limit myself, but the noise still drives me as much as ever.

I can fight it, but a cage will kill me. Blocking it will kill me. I have to find some way to channel it, to turn it to something better. I can make the monsters disappear for you, but I can't stop being a monster myself.

Well you certainly don't look it, Doctor.

I don't want you to be my weapon. I don't want a weapon and I never will. I know a cage will be hard, but there's no other way. You can come along with me, but not to conquest, not to hurt or kill or anything like that. You'd be coming along as my prisoner.

As for channeling... perhaps you could try art. I've heard many a troubled men have been able to express themselves through art. Who knows? You could very well make an excellent drummer.
