Do I? There is the possibility that it can be frustrating or embarrassing to solve ones regarding myself, and I don't trust others to do it for me.

You must, if you're disagreeing with me. Of course, I never said that she ought to forget the events of the day — although I'm not certain that there'd ever be much of a mystery. One wakes, one opens presents, one eats and one drinks. There may even be a spot of arguing in amongst the waking and the eating and the drinking, but whatever it involves or entails is hardly worthy of an investigation.

Well, imagine that something miraculous happened. Christmas is known for such things, is it not? Should her sobriety have been compromised, there would be a chance that she would have never remembered bearing witness to such a thing.

Comparatively, I should say. Certainly more practical than theorising on the non-existent, and a great deal more practical than being in a drunken stupor, if the remarks of others are to be believed.

Naturally. People are fond of being contrary. That aside, it's rather difficult to argue against the existence of something that plainly exists, after all. It's proving the existence of that which has no proof that's the more difficult, and in that case— I've far more interesting things to with my time than debate existence of the metaphysical. Or of God, which is usually where such conversations lead.

Shouldn't say or oughtn't say? I've found that when one says the former, they often mean the latter, and when they mean the latter, it's something that should be said.

A bit of both, then. Not that it does me much good either way; I'm bound to it. Leaving for good is impossible.

Then use several. [ a beat. ] Jessamine once stated that had she not known better, she'd have imagined I was born in a circus. I dare say the remark was more insulting to those who make their livelihoods from the circus than it was to me.

[she laughs.] Given the knowledge I do have, it would not be surprising if, in fact, you did come from one similar to mine. Though, what possessed this woman to say something of that sort?
