On being dragged out of headspace
My dear mun, while I appreciate the new tobacco– [ Merry raises his pipe in salute ] you might want to think about what it means to be sharing me out in the open.
I can seem rather different than I am in the movies, you know. Older, for one, and more calm.
[ Some thoughtful puffs of smoke ] I don't ask for much, but I don't know if we are quite ready to take this step, to be truthful. But I will stand with you, as I do with Frodo, if this is what you chose to make of it.

You are wrong there, for the best distance is found if you have a good excuse and nothing (or anyone) to tie you to what his - and your- mischief sows.
[
say that very thing when they are your closer relatives and can come calling at any time! I dare you!wow, Merry.]no subject
[ Grumpy Gandalf is very terrifying. Merry would hate to see him genuinely furious. ]
Even then, Frodo, one best take care who such mischief is played upon. There are those who just know [ Like, for instance, Gandalf.
Unfortunately, (or rather, extremely fortunately) Merry will never eperience that to decide for himself. And you would keep them for all that, Frodo? If you had the chance to pass them on to someone else ]no subject
[So would Frodo, it must be a terrible thing!]
Gandalf must have a second nose just for trouble or just as likely, eyes in the back of his head.
or hidden within the beard[Some days he would hardly keep them but at the same time, to inflict them on another doesn't seem at all fair]
/I am late and terrible so sorryyyyyy
[ Merry is barely holding back the amuseent in his voice. ]
Definitely in the beardMore'n likely there are multiple sets of 'em.[ Not fair at all ]
So, any plans for more adventures, cousin?
It's all good!
How frightening! And how frighteningly dull for some of those eyes, if all they ever see is beard or the inside of his hat.
I'm afraid I'm caught in my own adventure at the moment. I have been trapped in a cit which has yet to see day of any sort.
Re: It's all good!
I wouldn't say it'd be dull, Frodo. Who knows that Gandalf keeps in his beard and under his hat. Could be very excitin'
[ Hey.... waitaminute ] You wouldn't happen t' be there with Eowyn, would you?
Can y' keep an eye on her for me? Not that she needs it.
Re: It's all good!
[a smile breaks out at the thought, one that Frodo tries to stifle quickly because it's Gandalf!]
You shouldn't speak that way, as if Gandalf's person was a magpie collecting all sorts of things. [Frodo's voice sounds strained with the effort not to laugh and with the supreme effort it is to appear utterly serious about the matter]
Yes, I am here with her, and her brother. And Strider and Faramir are here too, as well as Boromir and Legolas. [he nods, Eowyn doesn't seem to need it] Of course, I shall keep an eye on her.
I'm sorry I was replying and then I was gone the latter half of the week and I am terribly late
[ Hint. You are faling, cousin, and Merry is happy to see you smiling. IT seems so rare, these days ]
My Lord Eomer as well? And King Elessar [ And for all that Merry is a Rider of Rohan, that will never not be weird to say ] and all the rest. Why, you'd have a right old gathering if it weren't such a scary place.
I'm glad that you have friends there, though I suppose that I am not so glad that you all have to be there. It sounds perfectly horrid.
No problem, been on and off again actvitiy wise too!
[He'll blame you and today being a good day, of course]
Yes, to all of them. It is a horrid place but as you say, there are friends there.
If your mun forces you onto an adventure, I hope you find friends wherever you may end up.
We can be terribly slow together XD
I hope it too, Frodo, though I doubt I'll be going anywhere soon. My mundane wants to get a bit more familiar with me, and she has this thing called "real life" that seems to constantly override her plans for me.
Still, I hope to find such good friends as you have. And, perhaps, a less terrible place to be with them.
[ He feels a bit selfish about that, but Merry isn't going to lie. ]
It truly has been wonderful to see you, cousin.
slow train pulling in, all aboard
Enjoy your moments of peace while you may, Merry. You never know when you might get pulled off your feet; muns can be a mysterious bunch.
I think you will, if anything ever happens. But it seems many places seem so dangerous.
[he smiles softly at him]
I'm glad to see you as well. As always.
last call never, because we are all so terribly slow that it barelyever manages to leave the station
I will cherish them aplenty, I assure you. There are days when I think I shall do nothing but sleep and eat as many breakfasts as I can manage, to make up for all the sleeping and breakfasts I've missed over the events that have happened.
It's terribly lazy of me, I know, but I can't quite bring myself to mind, some days.
[ Merry takes a contemplative look, glancing over at his mun, who only returns the look with a raised eyebrow and a silent "we'll see". ]
Perhaps we can meet again, some time. In a place less... insubstantial as this one.
it leaves a good one inch per month! That's service.
Lazy! Merry, after everything you have gone through, you deserve a chance to relax.
[goodness, how ominous that sounds!]
This place seems like a crossroads of sorts, for all kinds of people, but I would like it.
On occasion, two and a half inches, if it needs to be placed on express travel.
You most of all, Frodo, and yet you are already in the thick of things.
...Though I am to understand it is not entirely willing on your part?
[ He has yet to know his own mun well enough to begin to think ill of them as a whole, but that does not change his mild displeasure at Frodo's predicament.
It would be far more ominous if mun wasn't about to move and have all her free time taken up for a bit.]It just seems empty, to me. [ SO UNIMAGINATIVE, MERRY. He shrugs. ] Hopefully, it may be arranged. However, I make no promises. My mun has more pressing priorities. I don't mind overmuch, it means I get to sit back and smoke to my hearts content.
Did you know she keeps an entire years-worth of Longbottom leaf in her headspace just for my use? It seems almost a never-ending supply.
You should have some and some extra to take with you, I'll certainly not need all of it.
Good god, that's moving too fast!
Yes, although she did take me from earlier on. But even then, it was quite enough.
Not entirely no. Though I am glad to see Strider again, and Lady Arwen, I would have preferred she not taken me.
[Merry, that may soon change for you. Muns..
then you may yet have some time!]Empty, I suppose, or fleeting. Of course, no promises, and remember, duck your head down when she does return from her Pressing Business.
A whole year's worth! Where does she even get it? [and are you going to share some with your cousin] If you don't think you shall need it...
Indeed, my dear, I cannot help but agree.
TBH, now!Merry would probably find then!Merry's face hilarious. Needless to say, they have both much changed. ]I suppose there really isn't much a hobbit can do if his mun sets her (or his) mind to something. Worse than wizards and their meddling, I should think, though I am terribly fond of Gandalf.
[ AKA Merry never said that. Ever. Under pain of Longbottom deprivation. ]
I shall be ducking so low that even the SB's will find it impossible to discover me. [ And that is very low indeed, with their incessant nosiness. He'll teach you if you like, Frodo. ]
I haven't the slightest idea. Probably some sort of magical powers or something. It's still good, though.
And of course not, cousin. Please, help your self handsomely. I should feel quite put out otherwise. I wouldn't dream of having you go back to that horrid place without something to fortify your spirits.
[ And maybe Merry feels a bit down that all he can offer you is some pipeweed, but he knows not to underestimate its important and buffering qualties, having relied upon it many a time himself. ]
Re: Indeed, my dear, I cannot help but agree.
yes, let's go with that]No, nothing at all I suspect; even Lady Galadriel can do nothing against their whims. Gandalf at least tries to keep an eye out for one during adventures; I doubt he delights in trouble as much as a mun does.
[Gandalf shan't hear a peep of what you said, at least not from Frodo.]
Then you must duck very low indeed. They can be very persistent and even more thorough if they have it in mind. [if you knew this, why didn't you teach Frodo before!]
Is it real Longbottom?
Thank you! [and help himself he does, and very handsomely] This will help, even a little. Strider might appreciate a good smoke.
[don't feel bad, he's quite grateful. He's just going to light a pipe right now while he has the time. After a moment, he offers it to Merry]
no subject
[ He is very grateful. ]
Only Bilbo was better, and that was only because he cheated. [ And that is the closest he will ever get to bringing that awful ring up in conversation.
He never taught you, Frodo, because you never asked. He was busy with other things at the time, you know, Such as making sure you didn't run off into the wild blue yonder. ]As real as it comes! I, at least, can sense no inquality in it.
You are most welcome, Frodo! [ Oh, he hadn't thought of that! ] Send him my regards, then, and tell him he only need ask Pip if he'd like me to ship some off to Gondor. Or wherever he may be at the moment.
[ Merry of course, graciously accepts and takes a few deep breaths before relinquishing it again to Frodo's care. ]
no subject
[Frodo has gone still, but only for a moment, the slight smile delayed some]
Bilbo was the sort to bend the rules at times, especially when the SBs were involved and if he could get away with it.
[Of course he would have wanted to know! He shouldn't have had to ask! And the SBs were certainly not helping in that desire to take off into the blue!]
I am sure no one can make Longbottom like hobbits, but it does taste quite like it.
[he takes the pipe back]
I will. He'd be glad to hear from you, and of course, I will.
