See? Everything's fine. It practically ended with a freeze frame high-five. Everyone who matters is happy, and it sounds like Derek — maybe even the others — will be more dependent on me than ever. I think that sounds very promising.

[Peter would tell him that even the kindest people have seeds inside them waiting to grow when the circumstances were right. He'd know. Some species of trees actually need the fire before they can sprout.]

It depends how they died, and if they made the right preparations. Being cut in half is considered pretty thorough. If Derek had done that, I don't think I could've made it. I knew he wouldn't, though. He's not a very emotional guy on the outside, but when he considers you family, even if you betrayed him like I did, he has trouble letting go.

I knew you would be. You're the one with the best attitude toward all this. I'm not telling you this to butter you up: Derek needs you. You. He may not say or show it in conventional ways, but your loyalty means a lot to him. He's been alone for a long time and I can't be the family he needs yet.
