Except for the dead, I suppose. People who died in their homeworlds can show up in a game after the fact.

Many of those who show up here do end up in a game if they aren't already in one.

Not quite. It's more of a chance to have adventures. My life was limited to watching other people have them.

We become this way when we fall. I got knocked down to earth by what I can only assume is a special necklace. The one I'm wearing right now.

I didn't put a spell on it though. It was just chucked at me. I keep it to see if I can find out anything.

Stars have fallen before, though only rarely. That doesn't require magic, but since throwing necklaces around doesn't usually land them off the planet, magic might have something to do with this.
