Regardless of the size of a force, there is only one reward for treason.

There was only one man in all the Seven Kingdoms who wanted you to be king, Stannis, and his head's mounted in King's Landing.

[ He knows the law, of course. He was only the Master of Laws. But the law hadn't protected poor, dead Ned Stark, and it wouldn't protect his brother either. Laws were made for the good of the people, and the people want him to be their king. Who is he to deny them?]
