Did you know that the crossbow can be traced back as far as the 15th century? Back then the crossbow was primely made out of wood, primely ash or yew and used for siege defense rather then present day sports hunting.

If you're going to be using the weapon you should at least know something about it. Say for instance, that you loose the current crossbow you're carrying and you have to make an entire new one. Now, you could forge one out of raw materials that you have there such as steel but that would take an unpresented amount of time.

Now, you could also attain another weapon such as a gun but using that against a hord of the living undead, would draw more attention. Even with a silencer the sound of the barrel can still be heard within a five mile radius.

Not to mention if you're out of the metropolis area, your only other choice would be to light some grass or bark on fire hoping you don't also burn down the rest of the meadow or forest with the zombie.

Well, considering that you're more then likely living though a zombie apocalypse, where most of society has turned into the the living undead. Therefore, society as we know has crumpled beneath our feet and all the technological and medical advances going to be lost, depsite whomever comes out to victory in the end. The human race may as well go out and skin a wooly mammoth and use the fur for clothing.
