[He takes out a pack of cigarettes, lighting one, and holding out the pack for Majima.]

[He sighs a bit before tossing his lighter to Majima.]

Saejima was one of the very few in Kamurocho that made me a better person for knowing him. If I were Yakuza... I'd want him as my brother, no doubt.

[Knowing the relationship between Saejima and Majima, Akiyama debates asking a rather personal question, but eventually opts to say nothing. Not like knowing more about her would bring her back.]

[ He catches the lighter to light his own, going quiet. Yasuko-chan. ]

I know. He's my one and only brother... back with the family with his own family and even a lieutenant. I suppose that's only fair, though. Mmn, it's only right.

[Scratches his face a little then takes a drag of his cigarette but doesn't say much else about being lucky.]

Nah, I just did what I had to do. Not like everyone would come out at once without the hundred-billion. Couldn't just let Munakata and Arai have their way like that either. Bad for business.

[There's a small chuckle.] After twenty-five years in prison, he kind of lost his tolerance for booze. I don't even think he realized he told me. Still... I can see why you head up one of the top families in the Tojo. Kind of rare to find that particular blend of ferocity and loyalty.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Considering how big this all turned out, it wasn't something any one person could accomplish. We all had a personal stake in it anyway. With Saejima cleared of guilt, your part was over.

Ah, yes, Majima-san. Yeah, he and I are both from Kamurocho.

Where we're from, he's part of a group called Yakuza. They're a kind of organized crime. Majima-san has a family in the largest clan in Tokyo. Earned himself the nickname 'Mad-dog' along the way. All Yakuza have reputations like that.

[He pulls out a cigarette and lights it.]

From what Saejima-san - Majima's sworn brother - told me, he's like a dog in more ways than one. Yeah, he's an unpredictable and fierce fighter... but he's just as loyal too. Saejima said that he lost his eye because he refused to go along with a plan involving betraying Saejima.

[ Oh, well...that's something he hadn't expected to hear. In truth, he always thought the scoundrel lost his eye doing something stupid or petty. ]

From what I understand, it took twenty men to finally chain him down. Even then, he refused to stop fighting. He could've easily just let things go, accepting there was nothing he could do. But he kept taunting his captors, whose only orders were to leave him alive. But, instead of taunting them into making an opening, they carved out his eye.

[He takes a puff from the cigarette.]

In my line of work, I've dealt with a lot of Yakuza. And yeah, there are plenty of petty thieves or thugs looking to use their ties with the Yakuza to muscle what they want out of people, but they never last long. People like Majima, Saejima, and Kiryu? They're the real deal. They have dreams, ambition, but most importantly, honor. Some of their dealings may be dirty, but all-in-all they look after the downtrodden better than even the cops in Kamurocho.
