Dear mun,

I really miss my sister. You and I have this image of where I am right now, watching the last of the night fade at this dive bar on the outskirts of Tijuana. Paint is peeling, it smells of puke and cheap beer, and there is some old guy sitting down at the end with crusted food in his beard. It's gross and disgusting and my kind of place.

So why aren't I happy? Do you know? I sure as hell do. I miss my sister. If she were here, she'd probably be yelling at me to finish my tequila, the sun is coming up and we will be in trouble. I'd make some comeback that I find funny, but she doesn't. She'd retort that I am risking our lives for something that doesn't really get me drunk.

But she'd get that I have problems. I miss Marlow. More than I care to admit, by the way. She'd understand that and wouldn't say anything about him. She'd just pester me until I push away the shot and follow her back home.

Then again, she'd never be in a dive bar on the outskirts of Tijuana. So...what now? Do we hug or can you just kindly fuck off?

Why are you in Tijuana, anyway?

Mostly because Mexico City is a shithole. I like deserts. Lots of wide open spaces and the liquor is tasty.

In my experience, most people who go to Tijuana are hiding from something...

Hiding? Maybe regular people. Me? I like the ambiance.

If you're not "regular people" then what are you?

Times change, but some things don't. Though, I have to say, I generally picture a man ending up in a place like this.

What's 'tequila'? Apart from liquor, I mean. I've worked that much out.

Tequila is a tangy kind of liquor. It's fantastic if it is really from Mexico. Though sometimes they add a worm to it that brings on hallucinations. Or would for mortals.

Implying that you're not one. Is that why your sister thinks you take risks for something that can't get you drunk? Because liquor doesn't affect... whatever you are?

Risks are mostly involving staying out too long. Sunlight can be a bit of a problem.

Then why do you risk it for a drink? Does part of you want to be caught in the sun?

Well the drink is sort of worth it. And hell, just call me a risk taker.

Is Mexico nice? I've never been. Maybe I should try to swing down that way sometime. I know what you mean about missing people, though. I mean, things can be okay, but sometimes it just doesn't feel quite right without certain people...

Depends on the parts of Mexico. I like the quiet, so I tend to stick to small villages.
