[Okay, he looks like she kicked his puppy or something. Maybe she'll buy him a sandwich later.]

What's eating you?

[He does like sandwiches.]

Nothing. Just trying to read my newspaper.

[She plops down next to him on the couch.]

Yeah, and what's so important in your newspaper that you have to read?

Something about a guy kicking kittens in gutters. It's really sad.

[Here have a look. It's actually about clay sculpting tools, not kittens. Whoops.]

What??

[She squints at the paper, scanning the page for kittens.]

Are you sure you know how to read?

[It got you to lean closer to him, didn't it? He smiles.]

They're on sale. I don't think you have this kind, right? Not the kittens, the sculpting tools.

[She looks up at him, still squinting, and ok, they are pretty close and it's kind of weird but whatever.]

Why do you know what kind of tools I have? Do you like, touch my stuff while you're in here?

[And look, he has self-control, he's not trying to kiss you.]

I have eyes. And you kind of have a habit of making a mess and not cleaning up after yourself, it's not like I had to search.

[She's thankful for it, really. Cause he smells pretty good, for someone who bums around all day, at least, and she'd probably kiss him back.

ugh this is totally her problem! She scoots back to pout at him.]

I'm a busy person! I don't always have time to clean.

[She only thinks he bums around all day. He has to make a living somehow.]

[He laughs.]

Busy being unemployed?

I do things! I'm basically planning my sister's wedding. You know that.

Speaking of, WHERE IS JAKE ADAMS.

I told you, I'm looking! He's a very hard guy to find. He's like a rich ninja. If he's secretly Batman you know you have a keeper.

[Damn you Jake Adams.]

Ugh, if he's secretly Batman then forget it. I've seen those movies. I don't want to get blown up by the Joker!

It would be a fantastic way to go out, though, you have to admit. The Joker is not a guy to be taken lightly.

[Sigh.]

I mean, he's a villain. I think people not taking villains seriously is the main problem.

Well of course. And the guy has a perpetual smile made out of scars he carved in his own face with a knife. He sounds completely reasonable to me.

I think that's what your look needs. Some scars. Chicks dig scars, you know that?

[He feigns a really, really contemplative sigh.]

I guess, if that's what it takes...

Well, you just say the word, I'll give you some real nice ones. I've got all the instruments.

[He laughs, and maybe edges away from her a little.]

You're really scary sometimes, you know that?

[But god dammit he's really growing attached to that scary.]

[She smiles at him, making sure to make it extra creepy, just for him. She definitely likes this aspect of Colin-- the one where she can act however she wants and he'll treat her the same.]

So I've heard.

[He laughs harder at that expression on her face. He can't help it.]

Do you get that from your mom or your dad's side?

[No Colin. Stop learning more things about her, it's a trap.]

[She considers for a moment.]

Probably a little of both, but maybe my mom. She's crazy. Seriously. I know she just wants me to be happy, but--

[Wait, why is she talking to Colin about this? He doesn't care.]

Whatever. So you think I should get some new tools, huh?

[He was really listening. And he really does care. That's the scariest part of it all.]

Yeah, never hurts to have a good selection to choose from, right? I'll pick them up for you this Tuesday. I'll be in that area anyway.

[She looks at him, raises an eyebrow.]

You don't have to do that. If you do, take some of my cash from the coffee can. Don't buy me tools, that's weird.
