You would call yourself one of my students. A Slytherin. For that reason alone, I trust you won't let me down.

I'm well aware that my dear friends may not know me so friendly. I can only guess at the reasons why, but it will not prevent me from acting as I am disposed, which is as their friend. I may not be like Helga, in her admirable steadfastness in all matters, but Salazar Slytherin is loyal to his own.

Fret not about the dialect. It will come.

You speak as though you are unaware of your transgresses, old friend. Do you need to have them repeated for you?

I have yet to live them. Would you toy with time and knowledge in such a way?

Perhaps it would do you some good to learn from your mistakes before you live them.

I know what my mistakes are, as you name them. You seem entirely closed to my perspective of them, as headstrong and fickle as ever. [It's almost bitterness, that look. Bitterness for what he knows is coming, maybe.]

I have been too long without your friendship. My anger and sadness speak for me, Salazar.

[ He looks a little ashamed, almost. Speaking without thinking has always been a weakness. ]

[Of course, Salazar wants to relent, but who would he be if he didn't embody the qualities of his house? Determination and occasionally vindictiveness being among them.]

[Even though it hasn't caused the rift for him, yet, he has his strong suspicions about what causes it: his friends would rather be blind to the fact that they lose half of their Muggleborn students to witch burnings before the students turn thirteen, than risk hurting someone's feelings or appearing politically incorrect. Salazar can't abide that and it will eventually drive him out. He thinks, and in this place knows from being told.]

You never could control your emotions. I suppose I shouldn't act as though it is shocking.

[ Godric's determination to allow everyone and anyone into the school has, like many things, blinded him to the deep reasoning behind his friend's dislike of the idea. He's had many years to stew, as well, and his hurt and anger over events has not exactly subsided. But, deep down, there is nothing he wants more than to have their friendships repaired. Being without his best friend is hard, if he's honest, and life truly isn't the same.

He smiles softly, admitting his faults without any concern - he finds his own weaknesses in nature amusing at times. ]

It has always been so, you are right. But... I will admit how much it pleases me to see you well.

[Stop making it hard to stay mad at you.]

[Salazar looks away, finding some bit of the wall particularly fascinating.] You have hardly withered upon the vine, yourself.

You're definitely not alone...

[ Never. He's too sweet to stay mad at.

He grins, looking at his crossed arms with an amused chucke. ] I'd like to imagine it is of my own doing, but I believe it has more to do with myths magic in my blood than my own health.

I am aware of that much, at least. [She is leaving that statement purposefully vague.]

[Of course she is. He just smiles.] You are one of the three who know me best, my friend.

I regret no moment I have shared with you. [Which is saying quite a bit all things considered.]

[in_the_grass]

[It is. And that means something to him. A good deal of something that makes him smile again, smaller, but more honest.]

Nor I you, Rowena.

Some part of our castle will forever be your home. [Let Godric and Helga keep their respective corners. Rowena may not mind taking in students from all backgrounds - wisdom doesn't have anything to do with blood in her mind (what are genetics) - but she has never disliked his company.]

It's a comfort to know that. I thank you humbly. [As if Salazar Slytherin has ever done anything humbly in his life.]

[She exhales quietly. So he knows.] It pained me to see your empty seat.

Can you make amends?

I doubt it. [He probably could with Helga, but he and Godric are both too proud. And none of them will ever concede to his wishes, which is what a true return would require.]

So now all four of you have gathered... I hope it is to do something more than build another school.

Perhaps. Our happy foursome shows threats of dissolving before it begins, but should it survive, it's possible you will meet us.

I'm sure nobody expects four very different people to get along all the time.

They would be fools to. But there are differences in personality and there are differences in ideology. For such endeavors as we undertake, only one is surmountable.

You're very determined, aren't you?

[He smirks a little.] Would you expect anything less?
