I'm not sayin' that you can't stand around daydreaming all day about these plots and stories you've got goin' on with those other characters you've got. I'm just sayin' that the workplace ain't no place to do it. When you've got a job, you oughtta stick to it until the work day is over, even if it's not much fun. If you aren't focused on the task at hand, you're never gonna get anywhere, and then you get behind. If ya couldn't find the interest to do it when you had the time, what makes you think you're gonna want to do it later?

After hours, you can do whatever you want. It's just a recreational hobby at that point, not somethin' that keeps your mind off all the work you've gotta do. Come to think of it, you bringin' me here to post this really isn't helpin', either.

So let's get back to work, alright partner?

So your mundane's not allowed to have a little break once in a while, now and then between piles of work? That's a little harsh.

There's a difference between takin' a break and daydreaming then, and doin' it while she's supposed to be working. It's when she tries to make the dreams and work happen at the same time that things just don't go right.

You know, it sounds more to me like she's had fits of inspiration. Isn't that nice? She's thinking about you and the others.

Just like now. Aren't you glad for that, at least? [ ahahaha braig is a bad influence ] Besides.. what would hold her back from thinking about it, even for five seconds?

I would hope the need to put food on the table would, to be honest. I guess that ain't always her top priority.

Now that's just pessimistic. Trust someone to learn better once their stomach starts growling, though, I'd like to think.

What? You want her to pay less attention to you? Th' hell is the matter with you man? You kind of only exist because she thinks about you, if she concentrates on work or something you might just up and disappear. Or like.. slowly decompose into some sort of rotting zombie. Hey! You could be the Creature from the Black Lagoon! But instead of attacking people with flippers you'd have wrenches. That's pretty sweet actually. And your sentries could shoot kelp.

Okay, maybe this is extra awesome.

I'd rather try to help before she gets to that point, but I might just have to do that. Some people only learn the hard way.

She sits at a desk and does a whole lot of paperwork most days. It isn't ideal and probably ain't the most intellectually simulating career, but it pays her bills.

No no, that's totally how it goes. You lurch around the headspace like a mindless zombie. Except you still have a mind until the aliens come and slurp it out of your skull. Then they take over your body and make you do things you wouldn't normally do.

But that's after all the probing and being beamed up to the mothership.

That's true, but that don't mean she should be spendin' her time here when she's supposed to be working. She's just gotta be reminded of that sometimes.

I'll believe it when I see it, son. Or I suppose I won't be seein' it, since my brain will be long gone by then if an alien does come and suck it out of me.

I've already got some space guns, but there weren't any aliens that came with 'em.

Could you do the sort of research you get from BLU anywhere else, Doc? You've gotta admit this job does provide some amenities that just don't come with others.

Zhough vat I get to test ze most ist healing devices und not any actual medical procedures. It ist somezzing, but it's a very limited research pool. Mediguns only work on zose viz ze heart implant und it's impractical to expect everyvon ein ze vorld to haff one of zose.
