Dear child, surely you cannot be surprised, no matter the interpretation, the events are set, and no amount of hoping could ever change it. Few, if any, ever escape the consequences of life and destiny, and there always comes a time where even the most glorious of ages come to an end.
A good tale is both blessing, and curse - one can't help but grow attached to the characters - and those cuts can run deep. The sooner you learn this, the quicker you can move on, and you'll be the stronger for it.
There are things to do, and dwelling on what ifs and buts is a waste of time, you don't have forever, and I refuse to be one of those muses who are called for a whim, then forgotten.
