Yes, it was a little discouraging to hear that some people apparently find wanting to prevent potential genocide a "dumb argument" for wanting to help Erik make some progress here, but it's just a temporary set back. [This doesn't make Erik right. The Barge isn't a good sample of humanity, it brings out the worst in everyone, and he isn't walking away from the cause because of a few people.]

I understand why people are jumping to conclusions, and I am emotionally invested. Probably more than I should be, as long as we're being honest. But this isn't just a question of what's best for Erik. It's what's best for everyone, on the Barge and at home, and I do wish more people would understand that.

... And no, I'm not thrilled to hear you're enjoying watching this spiral out of control. This place is supposed to help people, and I think it's safe to say that's the exact opposite of what's happening here. And while Erik completely losing control might finally show everyone I was right? [And now he allows himself to sound a little defeated:] I really don't want to be, this time.

I suppose not. I'm just not all that comfortable with the idea that most people seem to have written him off as a monster when he hasn't actually done anything to earn the label. Which is much more than I can say for at least one of the other inmates on board.

It may not be fair, but Erik will need to earn their trust. In the end, the process might well do him good.

I'm less optimistic. [Which is just terribad because OPTIMISM, WHERE DID YOU GO. :|] He's been having a difficult time not viewing this as just further proof that humans will never understand us, and he's been drawing more than a few parallels to his past, as well.

What of the other inmates? Are any of them in similar situations?

One - a young woman named Morgana - reminds me of him in more ways than I'd care to admit, but her warden is a magic user, and understands why her powers aren't a reward to be earned. One inmate, upon getting his powers back last time the ship made port, lashed out and killed dozens if not hundreds of people. The other wardens seem to think Erik will pull a similar stunt as soon as his abilities are restored to him.

There are others without their powers, but with most, I understand why the limits are still in place. But what's working for them just isn't working for Erik.

That's hardly fair. Erik may be ruthless, but he doesn't kill indiscriminately.

Though I'd take care not to appear biased, all the same.

Apparently merely expressing my concerns and explaining the situation as plainly as possible means I'm only interested in restoring his powers because we're sleeping together. [Which. They aren't. So Charles is basically extremely confused at how wanting to prevent a crazy, sort of genocidal meltdown is apparently really code for I'm sleeping with my bff.]

...I imagine they have a low opinion of us already, if that's how they see our priorities.

Apparently. I can certainly see where our situation's a bit complicated- [What with archnemesis bffs being a rare thing, all things considered.] but I didn't realize it would be this difficult to understand.

One can care deeply for another while still fundamentally disagreeing on certain issues. [Certain issues. Yes, that's one way to put it.]

Without being interested in each other romantically.

Which, in general, seemed a bit presumptuous. [Which was really just the theme of the entire argument but sigh oh well time to keep trying.]

Even if there were some - attraction, that would hardly mean it trumped all other emotion and sense.

It's certainly not anyone's business, regardless.
