Neither's the ice!

[Is she cocky? Yes. Don't blame her, she hasn't been able to let loose like this in a long time.

This time, though, she goes on the offensive. She charges at her, jumping and twisting, swinging her foot out with a burst of fire.]

[waterfell]

[Mercury steps back to avoid the flame, mind working quickly. Even if she douses it, Korra will probably keep coming. It's a good thing Mercury doesn't know any chi-blocking techniques, because she'd use them.

Dodge. Sweep. Pivot. Sidestep.

Then it's her turn. Each step of her defense, each blow of her offense, is calculated to work Korra towards a narrow space where Mercury will cut down her opponent's mobility and have the advantage.]

[Lucky enough for Mercury, Korra is too swept up in the fight to really figure out her strategy. She stomps again, a rock wall shooting up to defend, then runs out and launches another water bullet.

She doesn't notice that she's backing up against a wall.]

[waterfell]

[Mercury barely telegraphs her moves at all; the water and snow and ice are all conjured with no more than a glance, rather than typical bending moves. It smashes helplessly against the rock, and she scrambles for a better vantage point and position.]

[While she's scrambling, Korra's managed to call up more water, form it into multiple whips, and lash out, aiming to trip her up again.]

[It's a good way to force Mercury to focus on those attacks; she loses ground, though she concedes it very unwillingly and makes Korra fight for every inch and every step.

After all, she has endless experience. She reaches out with her senses, a bid to wrest control of the water from Korra.]

[It's actually a surprise to her when Mercury tries to wrest control of the water, enough that her focus slips and the other girl is successful. Lucky for Mercury, although Korra also, technically, has endless experience, she hasn't been able to access it yet.

But screw that. She punches the ground as soon as the water slips from her, and the earth, quite literally, cracks, heading towards her opponent to knock her off balance.]

[waterfell]

[Just when she thinks the advantage is firmly her own, it works. Something stirs in her the moment the ground shakes and the earth opens as if to swallow her whole, burying her inside it and submerging her forever.

No. But the momentary lapse of focus is enough to drive her down to a crouch, shaken off her balance.]

[And that's Korra's turn, to charge right at her with a spinning kick to create an arc of flame, then jabbing forward, a blast of fire bursting out.]
