Am I to understand that this is sort of a game being played? I guess Tom was right when he described it as a kind of holonovel. But it's more than that, isn't it?

...I'm going to explore alternate universes, and you barely know me. Well, at least it's an adventure.

I wouldn't exactly call it a game.

No? What would you describe it as, Commander? [Harry recognizes the woman, of course, and he straightens his posture out of starfleet habit.]

It's more like a mission, at least that's the impression that I've gotten from it. [ One rather like Voyager's, being stranded and all ]

[abrightspot]

A mission. I suppose that does make some sense. Who knows what kind of new encounters there could be in this.. space, dimension, place.

[counselling]

They would certainly be something that would be different from our universe.

[abrightspot]

Have you, pardon me for the informality, Commander. May I as how long you've been in this place?

[counselling]

I believe being off duty would forgive you for that.

And not long. I was here some time ago, although its only been recently that I've returned.

[abrightspot]

Without contact from my captain, or first officer, I haven't exactly had a look at the duty roster. [Harry smiles a little wryly.]

..so the universal stability is in flux, that's a problem, but good to know.

[counselling]

[ Ah, Harry. You make her smile with that dedication ]

At least there is comfort that we can be returned and left to our duties, but there is still the concern that we could be brought back here.

I wonder if there's another theory to explain it.

[It's second nature to him, but he's glad it helps. She has a very pretty smile, he can't help but notice.]

With a little more time, I can come up with some. ..and I have the feeling that time isn't going to be an issue.

[counselling]

I've heard from others that death isn't always an issue. [ Which is more worrying ]

[abrightspot]

You mean? [The thought that he could die, and not be dead, it's disturbing.]

[counselling]

That there are some here that have died. [ Was this what Picard had meant with the Nexus? ]

I've been caught up in someone else's afterlife before. [Or close to it.]

...should we be looking for a way to escape, or should we just keep exploring?

[counselling]

We may have to explore to find a way to escape. Other than the basic conclusions there isn't a lot of information on face value.

My tricorder wasn't able to dicipher anything useful, I was only able to obtain mixed readings.

[counselling]

We may need other technology to learn more.

[abrightspot]

What about other methods? Are you able to... feel anything from the mun entities?

[counselling]

I can sense something but it doesn't give me a lot of information, not when they still withhold it. But at least I know that they're doing such.

[abrightspot]

They withhold information as well? This is getting better and better.

[counselling]

All may not but mine is. She's a little like Q in that respect, testing how I react to situations.

That gives me a little to think about.

I take it that you've met Q?

[abrightspot]

I haven't had the pleasure, no. Though I've read all the reports of the encounters that Enterprise has had.

[counselling]

We did have.. a few. Somehow he became endeared to us, with all his complaints of humanity.

[abrightspot]

It's interesting how bonded a crew can become. [Of course, Voyager's crew had little choice in the matter. They were somewhat stuck with each other.]

[counselling]

On a starship, even one as large as the Enterprise, that can quickly happen.

[abrightspot]

I considered applying to the Enterprise once, but there hadn't been a position open at the time.

[counselling]

I'm sure that he ship you're on appreciates you.

[abrightspot]

I don't regret taking the assignment on Voyager. [Harry certainly appreciates his crew as well, he was just saying.]

[counselling]

[ Oh, another one of you. Her day ]

It's certainly a singular assignment.

[They come in packs.]

It's.. challenging.

[ Which is awesome for them ]

The more interesting opportunities often are, but you will see more than any of us can.

While the holodeck comparison isn't too far off from the truth, neither is it entirely accurate. We are not fictional characters being written into a program, but we are at the mercy of these 'mundanes.'

Captain! [Harry is quite glad to see her, and smiles widely. That is, until her words sink in.]

At their mercy? Forgive me, I can't say that I like the sound of that.

[Kathryn returns the smile slightly, always glad to see members of her crew.] I can't say I disagree, Mr. Kim. It is not a very comforting thought to know that we are in such a situation, but don't let it discourage you. We aren't helpless, just- at a disadvantage.

I think I can take disadvantaged, so long as I'm not standing alone. [Again, the non-regulation familiarity seems to creep in much easier in this unusual place. Harry clears his throat and falls into a more formal posture.]

You'll never stand alone here, Ensign. There are too many of us to be truly alone, even if we are out of sight of each other.
