[You asked, Haymitch. Her glower all but says those words aloud. He asked and she answered the best she could. She's not the wordsmith, the orator, that Peeta is. It's never been as easy to translate her thoughts into words spoken aloud. Especially on topics she'd rather not speak about at all. Even to Haymitch. Especially to Haymitch.

The angry look doesn't fade from her expression at the question. She might not like being stuck in another game, trapped and manipulated by a new set of Gamemakers, but most of the time, she can convince herself that it's not so bad. Because Rue's there. Little Rue, who is alive and thriving in Luceti. Where else would she get to see that? It makes most days bearable. But not now. Not when the Gamemakers are enjoying one of their small little games. Games she's grown to hate almost as much as the Capitol's. Because in these games, she's not even aware she's playing until after they're done.]

They've hijacked us. They've taken our memories and replaced them with new ones. It's not torture. Not like... [A pause and she gestures. He should know, remember. It's his fault Peeta had gotten captured by Snow. He was supposed to keep him safe.] ...not like the Capitol. Peeta. You wake up one morning and you think it's all normal. That your life has always been like this.

[She shakes her head.] They really are just as bad.



[ooc: I have Katniss at luceti. The Peeta that just tagged you is also there, and we have Rue and Clove as well. It's a well paced game (albeit journal based instead of community) and rather lax on activity. I've been there for about three months now and have gotten some amazing CR out of it. Anyway! [ Contrary to whatever she may still believe, it was not an easy choice to make. Choice, in fact, remains a very generous term that he barely entertains. He scratches his face thoughtfully, retracing some markings from their original confrontation on the matter.

Her distress is understandable. In his own experience, it's the mental hardships that are the worst. There's no amount of training that can prepare someone to somehow cope with that mysterious feeling in their gut that something is not quite right. Fear. Panic. Both are terribly human emotions that seem to bring out the worst in others, intentional or not. ]

[ He spits over his teeth. He could go on, offer a hint of an angle or ask for a further assessment, but something unspoken between them holds him to silence. ]

[What is there, really, to be said? He's seen it. Seen it with Peeta. Except there's no intensity, no strangeness to these memories. They're crystal clear. As concrete as her actual memories. No game of real or not real can be played with these hijacks. Not until after the game is done. And then you know immediately. You know immediately how much of a lie the past few days have been.

But it's similar enough. He gets the gist. Hijacking is hijacking. It doesn't matter how. And it doesn't matter by whom. The end result is the same. Regardless, she'll survive it. She always does, doesn't she? It's what she does. What other choice does she have?

They're Gamemakers. [The word is spat.] Of course they think they're clever.
