Do you really think that after spending so long ignoring me, that I will just come back to you like nothing had happened? I can't say I missed you at all, but you certainly inconvenienced a lot of people by promising things you didn't follow through on.

[You're mad because you really wanted to do the things I promised I would. I'm sorry, Hubert...]

Well, as long as he still helps people, I guess it's okay in the end. [Pao-Lin herself tries to be conscious of collateral damage, but it probably helps that her powers are not destructive in the same way Kotetsu's are.] It doesn't mean you still shouldn't be careful, but most things can be fixed or replaced. Sadly, people cannot be replaced, and at times, hurt feelings cannot be mended.

...well, people do come back in Luceti, at least. Just...they lose something when they do.

[Hmm, a place where death is not permanent, yet something is taken as a price.]

And what is lost, if I may ask?

It's different for everyone. It can be something like memories, or a body part, or a sense. [A beat.] I...can't taste anything anymore. [And for a glutton like her, this is downright catastrophic.]

You can't taste a thing? [And Hubert wonders what it would be like not to taste his favorite foods... which would be catastrophic for him as well, but he won't let anyone know that.]

However, memories, a limb, or any other sense would be difficult to lose as well, I imagine.

[She nods. Losing her sense of taste is terrible, it's true, but if she'd lost a limb it would've messed with her fighting skills. Hm.]

At least there's a way to get that stuff back, though you have to wait at least four months before you can. [A sad smile.] I don't know that in my game yet, though.

I suppose one's knowledge inside these games are much more limited than outside. It's quite amazing what it does to those I've seen put in games.

[And that kind of scares Hubert. He doesn't want to be placed in that kind of disadvantage.]

There are worse games to be than Luceti, at least...but there are better ones, too. [She laughs and shrugs little.] It's really about just making the best of a weird situation, you know?

Yes, I'm well aware there are worse games. [As one is suffering a pretty awful game, and Hubert's pretty dang glad he's not in it.] Now, what is this Luceti place like that you keep speaking of? I'm afraid both Miss Mundane and myself do not know the full details.

Umm... [Where to start.] well, it's kind of a small village in the middle of a forest, and there's a barrier surrounding it that prevents people from leaving. Also, we all get a pair of wings when we wake up there.

Would one think they had died and went to heaven upon their arrival there? It sounds like the stories that people would tell about it.

[But yes, the wings. He's heard about those and so had mundane.]

I've also researched that trying to remove them could actually lead to one's death, am I correct?

Yeah, you're not supposed to mess with the wings. Even just plucking out a feather will hurt a lot, apparently. [She's never tried it, herself. She doesn't mind getting hurt in the middle of a fight, but something like that...] But I've heard some people are researching the wings more now. [Taking X-rays, seeing if surgical removal will be effective...Pao-Lin is happy to leave that stuff up to the experts. As for her, she'll spend her time trying to figure out how to use the wings to better maneuver herself in the air.]

It does seem like something that would need research if even a single feather being plucked out would cause that much pain. [Too bad he's not the research type like that, but it makes him curious how the wings connect to everyone to be an essential part of the body.

Though using the wings in battle, yes, he would have to agree that he would try to use them to gain an aerial advantage as well.]

The Malnosso -- that's the people who keep us in Luceti -- also run experiments on us, usually every month. They last for like a week or so. [And are not always that bad. She got turned into a dragon for this month's experiment, for example. Sure, she was smaller and cuter than she'd prefer, but. Dragon.]

I must admit that these experiments hardly sound appealing. [And now he wants to know what his mun is looking at and why she has that sadistic smirk on her face.

...oh dear.]

Yeah, they're pretty annoying. [At best, anyway. Sometimes they can get downright frightening, like the moonfall experiment last Halloween.] Supposedly the Malnosso use us as test subjects to figure out how to send everyone home, but I don't see the point of a lot of the experiments they do. [Seriously. What was the point of making her act girly and putting her in a lolita dress?!]

Hmm, perhaps I should help my mun rethink this. I would prefer not to be experimented on.

Muns are...kinda stubborn, though. Once they get an idea for us in their heads, we don't have much of a choice... [As she found out the hard way at the beginning of the month.]

I have unfortunately noticed this, however nothing is yet set in stone. [He's honestly hoping time is on his side (again), but mundane will most surely get things done! She finally found the next dungeon in the game!]

Well, I'm pretty sure that Asbel, Cheria, and Richard aren't going to be leaving Luceti anytime soon [man, those bastards have been around for ages, or so it seems to Pao-Lin and her mun], so even if your mun misses the New Feather cycle in July, she could always try again in September or something. [She laughs a little, looking sheepish.] And I'd like to meet you again, too, even though you won't remember me. [A more serious look.] You helped me out in a bad situation once in Luceti, and I never got a chance to repay you for it before you went home. So I'd like to get that chance again.

[And on to the next. Progress!

And how does he say no to that? Serious and curt is something he is, yes. But being rude to a young lady who is insisting she wants to meet him again? How does he react? We won't worry about it too much. Just pray that her impulses don't make it so her plans don't go through again. I would hate to have her inconvenience everyone yet again.

[Just say it, Hubert. You want to see everyone again and join a game. Even more so now that mun is being all good and playing your game and going to beat it... like she was supposed to two months ago orz.
