The duty of respect. Of trust. Something everyone is owed until they prove themselves unworthy. Everyone, in some manner, is controlled. Even those who think they aren't. There are forces more powerful than anyone can imagine. But when respect is given to those forces, you'll more often find that things will come out for the better.

[There is very little, if any, sympathy in Merrick's voice. Perhaps it's just something he learned in his life three thousand years ago but isn't so common anymore, that kind of respect that can be given to anyone. A phrase he's heard comes to mind: innocent until proven guilty. With this man, it seems it's the exact opposite.]

My view of the world is anything but idealised. [And truly, far from it.] I hate the world as it is. I see potential, but I don't see something to have faith in. Humanity as a whole is ignorant. Individuals can be worthwhile.
