I am sad because I know more than I should. I'm sad because she has a family and my own stupidity lost me her and her mother. I can't miss what I see every moment of every day that she is awake and for most of the night that she's not.

That's not answering the question. A lot of people in this town have hurt others. Some of them even in this world. She's still the one that raised you, took you in, was there for you for your entire life. Are you ready to destroy that?

Keep Emma away while the rest suffered under her damn curse.

It's horrid! But if I have this or a damn room in Wonderland then at least here I know she's safe and happy!

[He made a face, mouth twitching and nose crinkling for a moment.]

I don't know. I know what the curse did, but I never knew the actual curse itself. I was... away.

Hmm. I think that's what the book is getting at anyway.

I'd say watching's better than nothing, but it's probably a really hard thing anyway.

I think she was always intended to be here, but she should have been trained to fight. She knows this world but not how things are done against witches like Regina.

That's why I do it. Sick little joke of the curse. I have everything I could want for her, and unwilling to make her like I am.

It's kinda true. Emma's really good at a lot of things, but no one ever told her about these things before.

[Hmm. Give his logic process a minute.] That doesn't sound mad, you know. That sounds like a good dad.

Kind of? Imagine how different things could be if she knew about this, had been raised with it.

The madness comes from other things. That is me being the best father to her I can.

It would be different. But she's still here. Even with no one telling her about it before I met her.

Finding reasons to stay and believing aren't the same thing.

But the more she stays the more time she has to learn to believe. And the more reason she'll have to keep believing once she starts. [Sorry, Jefferson. He's in unfailing optimism mode at the moment.]

All I can say is I hope you're right. Not sure I believe it myself but I hope you're right.
