Not really. Let's just say telling him how I felt didn't go over very well. Well - it sort of did but then it didn't.

Well, let's just say, for the sake of discussion... I sort of jumped forward and kissed him and he kissed me back but then his brother, who I had kinda gone out with earlier, walked in on it and saw the whole thing and...

[She stops to take a breath.]

I thought airbending was hard. This is way worse.

[Her eyes widen a bit. That is not quite what she had been advising. Still, she opens up her arms to offer Korra a hug.]

That's quite the situation you're in.... Are you working things out with either of them or something else?

[Korra gladly takes Pema up on that offer. Being afraid - failing at things - not being able to just force her way through problems - these are all new things to Korra.]

I think we're okay now. It's awkward. They're brothers. I never meant to hurt the one I sort of went out with. He thought more of it than I did and I feel awful for what happened.

[Sigh and then a wince as she remembers how she told Mako they were soul mates and meant to be together. Excellent work, Korra. Really.]

I know you want to forget it ever happened, but it might be better if this is one thing you remembered. [She starts brushing a hand over Korra's hair slowly while her other arm holds her close.]

This whole mess will hurt for a while, but you can learn from it. Use it to base your future actions on, and maybe next time things will go a little better. [key word there: maybe, since it had every possibility of also blowing up in her face again]

Yeah... [SO HUMILIATING! But Pema's soothing is appreciated. Korra loved her mother but she never saw her much after it was known to the White Lotus what she was - the Avatar - and so moments like this had been few and far between with them. It's nice to have a motherly sort in her life again - even if she won't admit it. Korra sometimes envied Ikki and Jinora - they got to be kids. She had never really had time for playing or learning how to interact with those her own age. All she had ever done was study and train. The few moments of freedom she had experienced had been taking Naga for runs. It hadn't been a terrible childhood by a long shot but it wasn't normal - she could see that now.]

I felt better after telling Mako the truth even though it turned into this huge mess that almost cost us the tournament. I just wish Bolin hadn't gotten caught in the middle.

[She's been listening to their matches on the radio so she heard about the disasters of the semi-finals. What she hadn't realized was that Korra had been caught in this tangled love triangle with her teammates. The abrupt deterioration in the Fire Ferrets' teamwork made more sense now.]

Oh, Korra.... I know that can't have been easy. Some things dealing with love rarely are. They get messy and complicated and feelings can get hurt easily. But things will get better eventually.

[She's used to others being around by now so she nods]

Heh, yeah, I know the feeling. [sighs] It's all a mess. I mean, it's worked out... sort of... but still. [another sigh] What did I get myself into?

Something that's going to take a while before anything starts to feel normal and less awkward. But there are bigger problems than this coming up. [White Falls Wolfbats match anyone?]

[Korra winces.]

I really wish we had seen how they won so fast.

[korralate]

I bet they play dirty... how else could they have won so fast? [...gulp]

[hotheadedsavior]

But wouldn't the official call a foul or something? Maybe the other team took a dive. [double gulp]

[korralate]

They were carried out on stretchers! You call that taking a dive? But what if they play dirty within the rules? [She doesn't even really believe herself on that one....] I guess all we can do is train harder than before and knock them all out before they can get us.

Maybe it was a really good dive? [Yeah, totally not believing herself there and she sounds it.] How do you play dirty within the rules?

Try the exact opposite. And how should I know?! I-- we just started playing almost a month ago. Or maybe we would've known about the stupid "unnecessary roughness" thing.
