Look. I don't know if you noticed, but a rural village cut off from the whole rest of the universe is just not a good place for me. No access to my work, no access to S.H.I.E.L.D's resources, nothing! I mean, we've been over this.

I don't need a vacation. I'm fine! Just -- just let me have this. I'm going to make a major breakthrough that could possibly change the world, the entire course of human history, our whole understanding of the universe as we know it and--

And I'm going to bring him back. So, you know what? Forget it.

Don't you have finals? Go study for those, or something. I was never as bad a student as you.

A word to the wise, Jane? The more you try to talk them out of it, usually? The more they want to do it. I guess it's like reverse psychology. [And it sucks.]

You know what it is? Annoying. We're busy! I seriously have better things to do than waste my time in some village where they've barely heard of computers!

[ Doesn't. Shift nervously, or anything, tucking her hair behind her ear. ]

--You're here. I mean, uh, obviously you're here, but -- how did you get here? Wait, no, that's-- [ She laughs, suddenly, bright and breathless but, yes, definitely nervous. ] I mean -- hi.

[he smiles at her, so happy to see her, before he pulls her into a hug, not wanting to let her go]

I am here, Jane. I came back. Not only to stop Loki from destroying the planet, but also to look for you. It was...very difficult. But I am back now.

[ Whoakay. Getting pulled against him all at once was -- something she maybe should have been expecting, but wasn't. Now that it's happening it feels natural, and her arms go up around his neck as she breathes out, shaky.

It's been so long.

Still, frankly, pretty nervous, he gets a smile in return that is a shade uncertain. ]

So you -- you made it back. But what happened? Something must have gone wrong to-- [ make you break your promise. She shakes her head, minutely. ] You know, I was -- I was looking for you. I guess you beat me to it. [ With some humor. Deep down, she feels a little cheated, though not ungrateful. One of her hands moves to brush at his hair, idly. ]

[he kept her body close to his, just enjoying being around her again. Having missed it greatly.]

Yes. Something.. happened. And I know I broke my promise. And I am sorry. But Loki and I... we got into a fight. And the bifrost was broken. I then could not return. But... I have managed, and I am not going to leave again.

... your brother. [ Said a little uncertainly. She remembers what happened the day the Destroyer came - the few mentions of a brother, of Loki's name. ] But how can you break the bifrost? You shouldn't be able to just break an Einstein-Rosen bridge like-- um.

[ Jane, no one cares. And she seems to realize it, cutting herself off rather abruptly. She breathes out again, trying to get herself to settle. ]

... Thor, is it really okay for you to stay? What about-- what about Asgard?

[ She wants him to stay, of course. But surrounded by mortals in a world not his own -- that was the deal, but having had time to think about it, she realizes it's sort of unfair to him. More than sort of. ]

[he smiled, knowing that Jane was about to go on one of her rants about the bifrost, and it was something he loved about her.]

I used my hammer. You would be amazed at the power it holds.

[his smile grew, looking at her, his eyes bright]

Earth is under my protection now. I am part of the Avengers. I am here to protect everyone, including you.

[ That he not only puts up with it but actively encourages her work and even contributes is one of the things she loves about him, in return.

But the mention of the Avengers gets a raised set of brows. Her arms shift, and she loops them around his waist instead, getting comfortable. ]

The ... Avengers? What's that all about?

It is... an initiative, by S.H.I.E.L.D. We helped to save the world. And I am still part of it. I suppose having a God is helpful.
But it also means I will be here on earth. Only if you want me.

S.H.I.E.L.D? Why haven't I heard about-- stupid question, of course I haven't heard about it. [ She might work for them now, but there's still some antipathy there.

... only if she wants him? She smiles at that, relaxed and honest now. ]

[ Tugging him down into a kiss now, if that answers that. ]

[getting cut off, he kissed her back, having missed this feeling. Being in Asgard, and only thinking about her, it was the best thing to feel her kiss again]

[ With a brilliant smile. ]

Well, then I will stay.

[looking at her, his smile still bright]

Though.. I do not have a place to stay.

--oh! Oh, right, um--

[ He will not fit in her trailer. And moving in is kind of too soon, all things considered, and-- ]

I guess I can give Erik a call, or-- no, I guess S.H.I.E.L.D would probably--

[ A pause. And then she groans. ]

God, I keep forgetting about the bizarre meta properties of this place. You need -- what you need is one of those games. A -- a roleplay, or whatever it's called.

[ That sounds genuinely horrific, he feels for Jane so hard. ]

A major breakthrough that can do all that?

[ Oh, you had to ask. She lights right up. ]

Yes, it can. The ability to open and stabilize Einstein-Rosen bridges enough to make them safe for consistent human travel would revolutionize everything we understand about-- about space travel, about the universe, everything. Conventional space travel would become obsolete -- for the first time we'd have access to alien civilizations, we'd have the ability to study phenomena up close that you could previously only look at with the strongest telescopes and even then the picture was billions of years old and excruciatingly tiny -- we'd have the ability to see the real thing in person!

[ BREATHE, JANE. ]

It's just incredible. And she's -- she's taking me away from all that! Seriously, I can't let her do this.

[ At last. He's been searching for her ever since her disappearance from S.H.I.E.L.D.'s facilities became known, and now he's found her, wherever this is--a rural village is as fine a place as any, with her here. ]

Jane. [ The relief, the joy in his voice is undisguised. ]

[ ... bites her lip. And then smiles, brightly, a little nervously, tucking her hair behind her ear and taking a step toward him. ]

Thor. Hi.

[ Jane why so cute.

He catches her into his arms, pulling her up onto her toes, up against the frame of his body, and one broad hand tangles in her hair, the strands weaving soft through his fingers. This warmth stealing through his chest feels like the most perfect form of contentment. He breathes deeply of it, and of her, the familiar sense of her in his arms. His head is bowed close to hers, and he says, simply: ]

Forgive me.

Whoa.

[ She can't help it. It's not every day a god pulls you into his arms like you belong there. After a startled moment she laughs, quietly. ]

It's -- it's already forgiven. I knew something must have ... must have happened. [ Her smile falters, for just a second. The wondering. But she'd -- well, he'd believed in her. So she'd returned the favor, and the thought makes her relax, a little. ]

Besides, you still kept your promise. You're here, right?

Many things happened. I did not mean to stay away for so long, but for a time it was impossible to return. My father sacrificed a great deal of power to send me back, but then there was... [ He pauses. ] A crisis.

[ Thor sighs, and strokes her back, a hand running down the length of her spine. ] But we have time to speak of that. Tell me of yourself, Jane. You are well?
