I wouldn't worry about poledancing being 'improper' or anything like that, either. It's when you're stripping that it crosses those lines. There's competition for the dancing by itself.

What's wrong with dance in general, hm? Everything's about context, and pole dancing can be taken like a sport and competition like all other dances. It's more a mix of that and gymnastics.

For proper grip, it'd require fitted tank tops and shorts, but it's easier for beginners that way.

It's a beginner's suggested attire because it's harder to keep and adjust one's grip on the pole with clothes on. The better you get, while the clothes are best fitted the more clothed you can be. I can wear a suit while dancing, for example.

Being able to climb and bound off of things to get to normally unreachable locations, I suppose? Like running and bouncing off one wall to reach the ledge of an opposing one. I've never actually really done it myself- I've just taken dance and gymnastics when I was younger.
