A copious amount. I want to apologize for last night. She hadn't slept in two days and her fingers were moving faster then I could intervene.

Two days? Don't hallucinations begin sometime around the two day mark?

Usually. Fortunately for her-and considerably less so for myself-she's used to the schedule and only gets incredibly loopy.

They did some studies about this thing called a 'sleep debt'. It's something I work on repaying on my weekends. [There's something of a wry humour in his tone.]

[Humor was better then being outright insulted and Reid relaxed a little, nodding.] It's a concept I'm familiar with, and something she needs to do more of. I will do my best to keep a better rein on her in the future.

I'm lucky that my mun and I seem to be on a wavelength about rest. Even if one of us is nocturnal and the other isn't. [Now taking bets on which is which-- No, nevermind, that would be too easy.]

I can understand that. I happen to enjoy early mornings. She works night shift.

I've worked night shift a few times in my life. It didn't bother me when I was doing it, but now, I'll stick with days.

My hours vary. I'm on call 24/7, so I could be called in at any point in time. The majority of my work, however, is days.

All bets are off if I'm working a case, though.

I know that feeling. I get some cases that keep me in the office for days. [And he never liked those, but they happened. The hard cases. The difficult ones that required everything be outlined just so.]

[The cases that usually started off with Reid and the rest of the team out in the field for days or even weeks before they finally handed case and unsub over to...well, Hotch. In this case, anyway....]

[Aaron shrugged. It was the career he'd chosen for himself. He'd cope with it.] It gets them off the street. That's what matters.

I have no room to talk. I've been shot at, beaten, and kidnapped more times then I care to remember, and yet I still go to work every morning.

[And Reid read it very clearly, amusement toying with the corner of his lips as he rolled his shoulders in a pseudo-shrug.] Don't be. I could have literally been anything I wanted to be as a child, save for anything involving physical prowess. I chose the FBI.

I choose to help men like you put away people like we catch.

[Anything excepting physical prowess, and yet he'd chosen the FBI, where there was a rigorous physical demand-- Was it an oxymoron or an irony? Either way, he shrugged.] As long as you're happy in what you do.

[Ahh, but he was a profiler for the FBI. His job was mostly brain work, the physical side of it just something that he maintained to keep his job. He loved putting the bad guys away, and loved using his brain to do that.]

I am. And you are, too. I mean, from what I can tell, you're deeply satisfied with your chosen path.

I am, and I'm not. [Just to be honest.] I made the choice to stay a prosecutor when I brought up the possibility of transferring to a different job. Haley opposed. We talked it over, and I decided to stay. Then we had Amelia, and then she started cheating on me, and then we divorced and I only get to see my daughter on the weekends.

[Oh, confirmation. Reid's brow arched and he couldn't help the little head tilt.]

Daughter? The you I'm used to has a son, but not a daughter. Jack. And...I'm very sorry to hear that.

Haley has a son with her new husband. Jonathan. [And sometimes he wondered if Amelia was his. But he loved her, and that was what mattered.]

Huh. It's strange how one choice can differ such huge change in a person's life. [And sorry, Aaron, but it's Reid. He has no concept of when to keep his mouth shut sometimes.] Was Amelia conceived before or after you decided to stay a prosecutor?

After, as far as I can tell. She was born a little early, though. [So all he could do was shrug. There were possibilities. And for a moment, he considered bringing up their lack of a sex life for a while, but he decided that now wasn't the time.]

[And, true to form, it finally clicks that Aaron might not want to talk about something as personal as that with a, for all intents and purposes, complete stranger. Have a small wince, Aaron.] Nevermind. I shouldn't have pried like that... I just get a little carried away sometimes.
