Ah, yes, 'progress', as you call it.  The term is an apt one, but whether or not you would describe it as monumental or minute remains to be seen.  Or perhaps it is both, my dearest mundane;  an earnest conversation between him and I is a great feat, no doubt, but in the grand scheme of things it hardly matters.  Everything remains the same.

You may see it as a step forward, but I see it as a moot point – did you not think that all your efforts will be for nothing, in a mere few weeks' time?  Considering that there will be changes and so-called 'updates' to be made.

I suppose only one of us can possess the true gift of foresight;  sadly, it isn't you.

[A hand to his chest and a nod of acknowledgement. Introductions, then, is it?] And I am Loki, Son of Odin. Or so they say. [That addendum there is quite important, but he doesn't linger on it for very long.] Names which hold more meaning for those who socialize in decidedly more Nordic circles.

So to be blessed with a gift is to only use it as they are commanded? That is less a blessing and more a chore.

I have heard of Odin, Loki. He is your pantheon's ruler, and carries only one eye if I recall correctly.

Ah...it is a difficult thing to explain, is it not? If one wishes not to use it as commanded, it can be a bit of a cage. There was an instance of that when my grandson took over, but...there are difficulties between men and gods that may never be pacified.

As is the trend when gods and mortal men dabble in each other's affairs. As such, the Asgard I know has had very little to do with Midgard, until recent events.

Things occur which require intervention; dignities are soiled, humility is made into a mockery. There are many among the immortals who retain great power and let it fester into an ego most terrifying.

It is odd, then, that the act of one mortal could offend them so.

But these are the ramblings of a very old woman. Pray tell, what are these recent events you speak of?

Ramblings? No, indeed, I find them quite insightful – more so than what one often hears within the realm of Asgard.

[But he'll oblige, of course.]

Events which started with my brother's banishment to Midgard itself.

[She's had a lot of time to think these things over, Trickster. She's of the first to exist, after Mother Earth and Father Sky. She is old.]

I imagine any god being thrown from his realm would certainly cause a ruckus.

It's a long tale, but if one merely wishes to know how one of the Aesir came into contact with Midgard after so many years, you need only look at the size of Thor's pride and vanity. He fancied starting a war for the sake of these two things, and was thus banished by Odin.

Whether he has learned humility since then is a matter of opinion.

Ah...so it is all for pride, then. That seems to be a running theme with our kind.

Some more so than others, but yes. Pride was a particularly large failing of Thor's, though – a difficult characteristic to not cultivate when you are strong, well-liked, and a Prince of the realm.

A prince? Yes, I do imagine that would do a number to one's ego, especially when combined with much strength.
