I believe there is a time and a place for just about anything. A cup of coffee. A hike in the woods. Arresting a suspect in a crime. Even jumping from one reality to another. While I am aware of why my services will benefit this Library, you may want to reconsider the state of my person when I arrive. Immediately after being shot three times and receiving several broken ribs, I will not be in the best condition to aide these fine people in repairing their library.

Forgiveness is not my concern here. As I understand it, my reality will not reflect my absence. If there goal is to assist, especially by way of physical labor, pulling me from immediately after a possibly fatal injury is not the wisest choice.

I believe she has her reasons that tie directly into my personal growth while there. Either that, or she would prefer I be in a tuxedo when I arrive rather than my usual black suit.

As for the safety of such a place, do not be mislead. While it does house a great number of books, I am told it also hosts a number of creatures than can only be described as monsters.

That's good to know. Perhaps I could at least convince her to adjust the time frame by just a few moments. Even if it were to be the moment after the trigger is pulled, before the bullets make contact. That would make for a rather jarring re-entry, but will serve me better in the long run.

Diane, I realize now that this is a singular and unique experience. To exist, even if for a moment, outside of any reality that I have known, or will know. That what I do and say here will never carry into any lasting reality. I will not remember it or any of the people I speak to.

Not only that, but in being in such a state of existence, I am aware of things that I will never have the chance to know again. Not only am I able to perceive the course my own life will take, up to a certain point, but also the state of the world as a whole.

There is much that can change within two decades. For both good and bad. This is not an area I should look into, even if I will not remember it for long. It is a path that can only lead to sadness.

Diane, Came to a startling realization. Have been investigating all the information available on this Library I am bound for. In such a reality, I am a fictional character, as is everyone else. From a book, no less, written in a language I will be unable to read.

But that is not the only reality in which I am mere fiction. This knowledge causes a great deal of psychic dissonance that leaves me rather uncomfortable. Think I would be better suited to investigating realities in physically or mentally inhabit.

Diane, the idea of a world wide network that is available to everyone is fascinating. Not only without phone lines, but without any wires at all. On devices as small as the tape recorder I am speaking into. To have such immediate access to so many people and so many various cultures must be an enlightening experience. Perhaps my previous assessment of bleakness was misled.

Diane, I fear my initial assessment was accurate, but understated. It would seem that in having immediate access to a great deal of information has caused a collective breakdown in mental faculties. I am reminded of my days in college. Imagine of everyone were to communicate as though in the middle of fraternity party and treat one another as though they were new inductees. I fear I have touched only the tip of the iceberg of the verbal and textual brutality that exists between these people.

There are, however, signs that intelligence still does exist. I will continue my investigations into this area. There must be something of merit within something so vast.

Diane, spent the night investigating this global web that I now know to be called The Internet. All of my previous assessments have been right on the money. It serves to amplify all that I have known to be true about people. While it shows what depths of cruelty and evil people are capable of, it also elevates the good in people. However, I limited my research to observation alone. The next step is participation. But I must select my entry point. I believe there to be many subtle rules that I am as yet unaware of.

Diane, I now believe that this is not a community of like-minded individuals. It is instead a program designed to mimic the basics of human behavior that is not yet complete. I have contacted those in charge of this program with suggestions that I believe will lead to a more realistic experience. Perhaps if I held a better understanding of computer programming, I could have offered more.

Yeah, programs do that. Some of them do it so well it's almost impossible to distinguish them from people.

It would seem that this was not a program of that nature. It had a very limited vocabulary, most of which was quite vulgar, poorly spelled and often basic concepts were replaced by poorly drawn images.
