You must reconsider, mundane. You know what he becomes once he's freed- surely, there's something else, some other plan for something interesting? Something that's less likely to kill people?

Yes, I have the ring- I've been keeping it with me all the time. My mundane seems to be willing to give me that much.

I've only just found my bells in the place my mun's set me. No sign of the ring or the sword yet but...there is no Mogget here at least.

I have been fortunate in some ways. The nature of the 'game' I'm in lets me travel between the Old Kingdom and many others... but unfortunately I have met a few Dead and one necromancer among my fellow travelers.

I've met a few of the Dead in my 'game' as well but...for the most part they have not been what I- er, we are used to. Some have been remarkably lifelike without the need to feed off of the living here but there is at least one that is very dangerous.

I'm stranded in this world while the events in the Old Kingdom are on hold indefinitely which is quite something of a blessing. Where were you last when you entered your 'game'?

My mundane assures me that not all of them are like those from our world, but at least one is entirely unpleasant, and some Dead in other worlds are just as dangerous.

I was at the house, after defeating Kerrigor.

The one in my game is called a 'vampire', she is both Dead and feels like something Free magic.

And...we do defeat him? How- I'd just escaped from the Reservoir with Touchstone when I was taken.

A 'vampire'. I'll have to remember to watch for those.

We do. I almost died, but I managed to bind him.

[Sabriel pauses, and then continues quietly.] Touchstone and I had help- the Crossing Point Scouts, and the girls from the senior magic classes fought beside us. Many of them died in the struggle.

My mundane didn't even let me keep the ring. Thankfully, I didn't keep Mogget either.

Useful as he sometimes is.

Although at least it isn't Kerrigor's collar she's removing- I suppose I should be thankful for small mercies.

Ugh. I don't know if I'd be up for a second fight with Kerrigor. We barely made it through the first one.

Yes. Others would probably try to help me, but it's not a fight I'm eager to face again.
