Madge?

[Oh no. No, no, no. And in seconds, the happy look on Katniss' face for seeing her friend alive and well again vanishes. She realizes what Madge is talking about. Knows this discussion all too well.]

Madge, you can't let her.

[Madge manages a smile for her friend. But when Katniss' smile vanishes, her own follows suit. She shakes her head.]

I'm trying to talk her out of it, Katniss. She's not really listening.

Where? Where is she thinking of?

A place called "Distant Skies" I believe...

[She shakes her head. It's an unfamiliar place.]

Is it safe?

I don't know.... She won't say.

[She wrings her skirt in her hands and glances up at her.]

My guess is that it isn't.... Are any of the places these people want to send us safe?

[She looks downward. She wants to lie and reassure Madge that it'll be okay. That maybe she'll get lucky and this Distant Skies will be a safe haven. But she's a horrible liar.]

No. They're all games.

[And games can never be safe.]

[She's glad that Katniss doesn't lie to her. It's better that way. She nods her head.]

I know. I... understand.

[At least they're not likely to be just like The Hunger Games back home... but that does little to reassure her.]

..... What's it like where you are?

[It's not bad, if she's being honest. She has Rue and their treehouse and all the food they can eat. But there's still that threat, that threat of experiments looming over their heads. Experiments that she still believes to be every bit as awful as the sorts of things Gamemakers would develop.]

Rue's there. The little girl from District 11.

[And then there are the wings.]

We live in the forests, in a treehouse. It's... okay. For now.

[Madge nods her head.]

I remember her, yes....

[She smiles slightly.]

That's good, at least.... It.... it could be worse, right?

[A nod. She doesn't want to comment on it, though. Doesn't want to think of the experiments and the harm that could so easily happen to both her and Rue.]

Is anyone going to be there? Where you're going?

[She doesn't expect her to comment on it, or even elaborate. She knows that even when things look nice on the outside, that's not exactly how they remain.]

You will be.... And Gale. But that's all I know of, so far.

Good.

[So she'll be there to keep her safe. One of the many Katniss Everdeens she knows is out there, existing for the pleasure of their own Gamemaker. And Gale. Gale, too. Even if it's hard to think about, hard to consider trusting him after Prim's death, he'll be good to Madge. That she doesn't doubt.]

[The knowledge that Katniss will be there is what's keeping Madge from freaking out. She's not as close to Gale, doesn't know him well enough to trust that he'll be there for her if she needs him. But she trusts Katniss.]

Mmmhmm. At least I won't be alone.

I won't let anything happen to you.

[Not again. She had no power over the bombs, but she can at least give Madge this. At least, some version of her can.]

You can wear pretty dresses. {He is not being quite as sarcastic as last time, he might even be trying to make that comment a sort of an apology for the temper he lost last time he spoke to Madge.}

I couldn't pull that off.

[It's hard to tell if her face is red with embarrassment or if it's a reaction to the last time he commented on her dress. Either way, she can't quite bring herself to meet his eyes.]

I don't see what good that will do me.

[And is that a hint of a smile on her lips at the idea of him in a dress? She shakes her head and manages to look at him now.]

You could, I think... just not very well. You'd have to have a sense of humor about it, really.

{He does feel bad about it, but Gale is not the type to actually speak the apology and in the end he has heavier things to take care of so sometimes the little things he should do and knows that he should don't always get done. Like apologies, though without knowing him she would not be able to tell that since his face remains a sort of impassive mask. Maybe, just possibly a twinkle in gray eyes, that fiery disposition does show itself of it's own will sometimes.

Okay, that gets the faintest ghost of a smile.}

Thankfully my mun is into other forms of torture, not cross dressing. I don't know if my sense of humor could pass the test.

[She'd be more surprised if he actually apologized out loud. She's not going to question his intent on bringing up the dress again, she doesn't feel the need to prove herself or anything to him. Watching him for moment, she tries to figure him out.]

I've never heard someone being thankful over forms of torture over being put in a dress every so often. I've heard these muns can be as vicious as Game Makers, Gale.

[She didn't realize she was speaking to him so informally until she actually spoke his name... which made her pause and freeze a little, her own actions taking her by surprise.]

{She may have to look awhile, Gale is not exactly easy to understand. An eyebrow goes up at her tone and familiarity, but it does not bother him. Just surprises him a bit.}

It was a joke. Guess it was a bad one. The mun has merits a Gamemaker lacks. The games they pick are no walk in the park but neither is home. Plus, the au's are not so bad. Some of his ideas are actually good.

{Not to mention he has Katniss everywhere he has been placed. That makes it better.}

[She'll likely give up long before she manages to read him.... Especially at that raised eyebrow. That alone is enough to get her to avert her gaze, embarrassed that she had spoken so casually to him. He still made her nervous, moreso than he probably should.]

Can't say I'm able to find much humor in things at the moment. Sorry.

[She chances a glance back at him and sighs.]

Mine seems to balance everything good with several bad. That's how it is for all her others, at least. It would seem you lucked out.

[ while he's not exactly happy about this, there might be some merit in it. hidden away deep down. so deep down that he doesn't even know if he sees it. at least there's no fights to the death. ]

That's optimistic of you. I'm afraid I've lost any optimisim after seeing what these muns are capable of.

Don't know if it's really optimistic. Just know it could be a hell of a lot worse.
