On being sent to Distant Skies Tempus James is not happy

You know, as well as I, that this entire idea is, hardly a good one. I don't even understand half the terms you are using to describe your present communication problem....Posting problem then, and you, want to put me, into a new place, with Helen and Nikola and, Helen's daughter you say. [And no he's not sure what to make of that information.]

And part of me is shown with an animal, which you have not chosen yet, though both of your choices, I admit, are rather, interesting and fitting, yes I do agree. Though I wonder what the others are, choosing, the other mundanes I mean yes. It is a very, fascinating thing, this choice in daemon...

But back to the point at hand, there is no viable reason to send me, from the time you have chosen, there. I have things to do, terms to learn, Helen's to watch over and insure one of them lives to come back and see me in this time, it is utterly preposterous of you to do this. Let me be, please.

You do not have to, go to a library to read. Have a book and read a little each night before bed, you would be surprised at what you learn.

And the passwords, are they specific to, each, group you are sorted into or is it, a common password that allows you into each common room?

I've only really read the potions text books. Or the Daily Prophet to keep up with Quidditch. Maybe I will read some books.

There's a different password for each House. When you arrive at Hogwarts you are sorted into a Hogwarts House. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin. James and Mum were Gryffindors but Dad was a Slytherin so I'm not so sure where I'll go.

Books can be, highly entertaining, or very educational if you like such things. Perhaps, books on, what did you say, Quidditch? [He says it slowly to say it right.]

And the names, important people to the school, your people, or merely made up ones?

Quidditch. Yup. It's our sport. Played on broomsticks! So much fun.

They're named after the four founders of the school. Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff and Salazar Slytherin. .The houses represent the traits they valued the most.

And besides broomsticks how is it played?

And that, makes perfect sense. So then, how are you sorted? Some sort of item or spell or test?

There's three goal posts at each end of the pitch and four different types of players. You want me to go into depth?

[Grin] A hat.

Okay. There's four types of players. Chaser, Keeper, Beater and Seeker. And there's three types of balls. Quaffle, Bludger and the Golden Snitch.

There are 3 Chasers, 1 Keeper, 2 Beaters and 1 Seeker on a team. With me so far?

And yes. A hat.

And, is it, an enchanted hat or a creature in the shape of a hat?

Okay. Well, the Chasers throw the Quaffle and try to get it through the hoop to score. Ten points every time the Quaffle goes through one of the hoops. The Keeper, defends the hoops.

And it's a magic hat. The Sorting Hat. It used to belong to Godric Gryffindor who realised they would need someone or something to sort students after they died. So he created the Sorting Hat.

Oh and the Quaffle is about this big. [Shows him the size is about the same as a football.] The Bludgers are slightly smaller. [Again indicates the size with his hands.] They fly around and try to knock players off their brooms. The Beaters have two bats and try to knock the Bludgers away from their team and onto the other team.

[He nods, eyes narrowed as he talks. Advantage of a brilliant mind, he can imagine this in his head.] To attempt to disrupt game play then, yes that makes sense if, only very dangerous sense.

And I have, heard far, far more, complicated things in my life. This is simple.

People don't usually die in Quidditch. But yes, they do get hurt.

And the last ball in the Golden Snitch. It's very small with wings and it's the Seeker's job to catch it. That's what I want to be. A Seeker.

I can imagine they do. Do the players not wear protection of any sort?

And is there any reason why you wish to be the Seeker?

There are pads for the body and the head but not always.

It's the most fun. You don't have to worry about anything but the Snitch. Or possibly a bludger.

And this is a school sport?

So I see, and what does the, Snitch do besides flit around?

[mini_potioneer]

Yeah! Each house has it's own team and there's matches throughout the year. And the winner gets the Quidditch cup.

Nothing. Until you catch it. It earns your team 150 points and ends the game.

I see, now that does make sense. How old, do you have to be in order to play?

So, the game, does not end sooner then that?

Well first years aren't allowed their own brooms so I'd say twelve.

Nope. The game only ends when the Snitch is caught.

That, seems rather young for such a dangerous sport.

And that, seems awfully dangerous. Have games lasted longer than days in the past?

It's up the head of house, the player and the team captain. Not soon enough if you ask me.

Yeah! Longest recorded game lasted three months!

There is a reason such, decisions are given to those older than you.

Yeah. I just love to fly so much!

You can fly without the need for a dangerous sport I should think.

And that is not what I mean. I mean, the, logistics of such a thing. Needing to stop for, bodily functions such as eating and sleeping.
