And what exactly is wrong with tragic stories? Aren't they more enticing?

Perhaps it gives a more heroic feeling?

The demise of the protagonist is sure to tug at everybody's heart strings.

Unfortunately, we can't all be the protagonist as much as we may want to be, now can we?

Some of our stories are simply cut short while the others carry on. Some characters are more important than others.

[Not that he was a protagonist of the main story, but rather of his own life, and an antagonist to others. It just sucks for him to realize he wasn't even a major antagonist for the story at large.]

Tragic to you, perhaps, but it could certainly be seen as amusing to others. After all, it's not every day that one gets to see a star burn out.
