On looking at
driftfleet canon is Castle
You want to send me where?
[..Space. But you'll like it! It's kinda like Nebula 9 and we all know how-]
You don't know me! And it's one thing to be a fan of a show set in space, it's another to be in space.
[That's all covered though, they worked it out.]
That's supposed to be comforting? Look I appreciate the attention, it's sweet but I have a job, I'm a cop.
[You could still be security, they need security.]
Not the same. Besides I have friends here, family, an apartment... well not here but in New York.
[You'd have friends there too, and these people need someone like you, you can't turn your back on them.]
... are you really going to pull the guilt card on this? You're worse that Castle.
[But it works. :) ]

[Kate is looking around because last she heard talking plants, animals and insects were generally signs of break with reality.]
There is not a butterfly speaking with me.
no subject
Is that a common thing for you, anyway? Maybe you should talk to somebody about that??
no subject
[Logic's not gonna help here Kate, just go with it.]
Ok, for sake of argument let's say you are a sentient, speaking butterfly who knows English. I can't believe I just said that.
Uhh, hi.
no subject
And for the record, most butterflies are sentient. They just have very low aspirations. But then again, they don't really need to when all they have to do is look for sugar water and keep from getting eaten.
no subject
So I am assuming you are one of the ones with higher aspirations?
no subject
So sayeth your inner voice. Which you should listen, I would suggest.
no subject
Ok, so tell me butterfly, unless you have another name, what do you know about space?
no subject
[Seriously.]
Well, space is very, very, VERY big. And most people actually can't live out there. Because it's space. There's literally nothing. Except when there isn't. Then you get stuff like black holes, nebulas, stars, planets, constellations...
...say do you think those lines that connect constellations actually exist? Wouldn't they be like millions and millions of miles long?
no subject
No, we've done that to fill in the gaps visually. So they aren't really there just like borders on maps.
As far as survival it sounds like I would have a ship with gravity and air and necessities. So it wouldn't be just space.
no subject
[She bobs up in down, as though she was--nodding?]
So, what's the problem? You get to go to a place you don't know, in an environment that is suited to your survival, AND you get fed? That sounds like quite the adventure!
no subject
[Was she being rude to make it..flutter there? Kate extended out a hand in case she wanted to land for a bit. She still wasn't entirely sure this wasn't some sort of dream, had she been shot again?]
The problem is that I have obligations, people depend on me. I'm a cop and that means something to me.
no subject
[She isn't sure of the gesture, but she knows a perch when she sees it. So sure, she'll rest her wings a bit.]
Oh, so it conflicts with your Life? Why didn't you say something sooner?
no subject
[Take a load off small fry, it lets Kate have a better look at you.]
Well, I mean I'm not the only cop in New York. But I have family and friends there and I don't know how I feel about time standing still while I'm gone or whatever.
no subject
Do you know what they would think about you leaving?
no subject
Yes.. no. Honestly all I can say I know for sure is they want me to be safe and be happy. [It took her a long time to come to terms with that.]
no subject
no subject
I think I'm just starting to work that out.
no subject
I may just be a butterfly, but I would think that if you are so worried about your friends that you aren't staying happy, then maybe a trip away from them will help you find your answer? Since they care about you, and you care about them, then it would follow that you should consider their wishes and set aside your fear.

She had dove into law enforcement after her mother's death. She'd believed it was murder and could never really let that go. It had taken her years to find peace with that and in the meantime she'd found a life as well.
But was it the life she was meant to have? If time was essentially standing still back home, would a chance for something else let her make sure she was making the right decision, for everyone? Maybe.]
That makes a lot more sense than I wish it did.
no subject
Well, I'm not telling you to go or not, but it is something to think about. And if you were to ask me, I'd think it'd be good for you?
SO SAYETH YOUR INNER VOIIIIIICE.
no subject
[But... it was food for thought. So maybe this was a chance to just settle any unresolved doubts about..everything. Wasn't that better for them all if she did? Wasn't it better for her?]
no subject
I can only do serious for so long. I felt like it needed something to lighten things up a little.
no subject
It's fine, just... yeah I've had enough people mess with my mind for a lifetime.
no subject
If I was really trying to mess with you, I think I would have you trying to get me some sugar water.
Which does sound pretty good right now?
HINT. HINT.
no subject
Sorry, first time talking with a butterfly, usually they don't seem to have much to say.
I have coffee, but I take it sugarfree.
no subject
no subject
Not sure what else I have, maybe some kool-aid.
no subject

no subject
But I guess I'll try anything once!
no subject
[So a quick stir and stolen coffee can lid and there is a small bit of kool-aid, vibrant red and smelling like...whatever fake fruit flavor 'red' is now.]
no subject
[She practically jumps up after tasting it.]
Oh, wow!! That's so... so... sweet! And what sort of fruit is that? I don't think I've ever tasted that before!!
