But you're right, the bay crumbled without you. The town was on fire, everything was a mess and we all wondered-- could it all have been avoided if only Pokey was here? Absolutely is the answer.

Look, when it comes to hedging bets, I'm a master. Disaster is pretty much just around the corner wherever you go here and-

[And then the boy recognizes who he's talking to. And just stops for a moment, lips parting silently as he tries to form words. There were a few people Pokey had just given up on getting a chance to see again, and Engie ranked among them.

It had been, what, six years? Maybe a little more? Either way Pokey had been twelve the last time he saw the guy. Now after his further adventures through nonsense worlds, he stood at the cusp of seventeen.

Six years.

It takes him a moment to get any words out.]

[ Engie is more or less the same, even after all those years. Maybe a little more gray, a touch less clean-shaven, but it's clear he's been doing okay wherever it is he's been. He cocks his head with a lopsided grin, even going so far as to try an effort at a finger pistol for a moment before he decides that's probably too much. He's never been perfect at coming off as 'cool', though, so it's not out of the norm. Does that make him a nerd— ]

I'd say I'm the one an' only, but there's other guys doin' my job too these days. Takes some'a the fun out of it.

[ This is somewhat of a surreal experience, all things considered, but Engie is beyond pleased that the first person he'd recognized in so long was Pokey--he'd been wondering how the kid was doing, although that title didn't fit quite so well anymore. He couldn't say he was surprised--time didn't tend to stop for anyone, after all. He's glad that Pokey's made it this far. ]

Been one helluva while, huh? [ And one hell of an understatement. ]
